Power Outage During Test!

OK, I was sitting for BEC today at 1:30. My last test. About 2 hours in I was on the last question of the last MCQ testlet when all of a sudden everything went black! First thought was that I’d have to do this all over again.

Luckily, Prometric’s servers backup your testing constantly. Sat waiting for 30 minutes for power to return. Once it came back on, we were presented with a choice: reschedule or continue. I chose continue because I felt okay about how I had done so far. Had this been REG about 3 weeks ago, I probably would have rescheduled because I felt like I was doing horribly. Glad it didn’t happen then.

What an awful experience, particularly since I was on my last exam and 2/3 of the way through.

That happened to me a couple of years ago during my first round with the CPA exam. They were able to recover everyone's test, except mine :

That sucks! I had my computer crash twice before they moved me to another computer and they told me while they were loading me the second time that, that computer has been causing them troubles today. All I thought was then why did you put someone on that computer? Either way, I passed that test! So all is good.

I wonder about the people at Prometric sometimes. Every time I've gone, either myself or somebody signing in just before me is facing sign in issues. Maybe it's not the people so much, but their systems aren't adequate. I just kept thinking, “Why doesn't this place have a backup generator?”

this reminds me of my GMAT exam. it was a while ago since I took the exam but I remember I was working on very last testlet (maybe writing part?), and the power went down so I had to re-take the entire exam. that was a bad experience.

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

@Kay, I couldn't imagine having to re-take the GMAT, especially when I had almost finished. It wasn't nearly as hard as the CPA exams, but at that point it was the toughest test I had prepared for. I was very pleased with having BEC come back up on the very question I was on when the power went out. I was surprised at that so I guess Prometric is doing something right.

klink — you are so lucky. I wasn't when I took audit right after they did a major change to the exam (2010). My computer was really slow so they moved me to two others. When they tried to launch me to the final one, it submitted to NASBA. They gave me a choice of a free retest or score it. I chose the free retest.

Good luck next week when the scores post — hope we both passed!
