PRE-WORK OUT SUPPLEMENT ON EXAM DAY?

    Hiya!

During my time of studying and passing two sections. My life is broken down into three things, Study, Working Full-time, and of course Gym-Time. Now I am no gym rat but I believe in staying fit and hitting the gym a minimum of 3 days a week. It is one thing I couldn’t give up, it keeps me sane and stress free.

    To the point:

Has anyone ever tried using pre workout supplements for exam days or while studying? Also I am not a heavy coffee drinker and have refrained from taking it on exam days. Is coffee recommended or not?

Please share your experiences or knowledge/wisdom, I am interested in what other Ninjas think about this.

    Thanks!

Stay away from coffee on exam day because you don't want to be running to the bathroom after every testlet. I usually eat a big breakfast with minimum liquids and drink half of a 5 hour energy bottle right before I go into the center and finish it off during my break before taking the sims.

I'm a big coffee drinker, but stayed away from it on exam days and would opt for just a protein shake instead. I tried to limit the amount of liquids I drank before a test so I wouldn't waste valuable time having to run to the bathroom.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything too extreme from your ordinary routine on exam day. If you are not much of a coffee drinker, definitely don't start on exam day!

“I wouldn't recommend doing anything too extreme from your ordinary routine on exam day.” Jilly Beans hit the nail on the head with that statement. If you take pre workout supplements when you go to the gym and they work well for you, then sure, give them a shot before studying, and see if they're good for studying too. If they're good for studying too, then use them on exam day. But don't do anything on exam day that you don't do regularly. So, if you don't usually use supplements, don't try them for the first time that day. If you've never used them before doing a sedentary activity (studying, working, or taking an exam), don't try that for the first time on exam day. But if you try them for exam-type-activities and they work well, then give it a shot.

I've recently started drinking a vitamin/energy shake thing that's sometimes used as a pre-workout shake, but I drink it before work in the morning. It works well for me, so if I was still taking the exams, I'd drink it pre-exam. However, only because it's something I use often enough to know works well for me. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I wouldn't drink coffee before the exams.

Don't do something abnormal just cause it might work – try it in the safety of a regular day first…and try repeatedly, not just once.

As Jilly Beans said…Whatever you do – make sure you study under the same conditions as your exam.

If you're going to be hopped up on Creatine with Muscle-Blast 8,000 and an I.V. of Kale puree, make sure you do the same when you study. 🙂

Interesting topic. I used C4 on test day. Not really sure what's in it but it worked on my first pass so I stuck with it. Speaking of first pass, anyone wear the same outfit on test day? Superstitions?

I got a new espresso machine for Christmas this past december and took FAR on January 8th. For the two weeks prior to the exam I basically was chugging espresso doing Ninja MCQ problems constantly. I'm like you where I love to work out and cannot really function without feeling physically well. However for the two weeks before the exam I did not work out the only thing I did was MCQ.

On exam day I did not drink any coffee and felt like I may be screwing up as during the exam I was craving espresso. However I stayed on track and finished the exam.

I was not consistent in my case but I think the exam is diff for everyone.

I liken exam day to race day (Although I don't consider myself a runner, I do alot of the local 15k's and half marathons) – don't do anything on race day that you haven't done while training. I'm a coffee drinker most mornings, but I do not have coffee on exam day. I get up at 10 or 11am, have a nice breakfast, and leave at 12:30 (I always sign up for 1:30 exams, and my Prometric is 10 minutes away). I guess I am a bit superstitious, as I always go in workout clothes (most comfortable) and I always try to get locker #20.

I always am prepared on test day and bring a ton of food and drinks with me to the exam, from coffee, freshly pressed juice, protein shake, granola bars, sandwiches, etc).

Its all about knowing your body. I agree you don't want to be running to the bathroom every section, but you need your mind to be working at his highest capacity.

I try to schedule test at noon. Have a good breakfast. Take my time getting ready. I bring water and a banana for when I take a break.

Interesting topic. I pretty much lived on caffeine pills for my last 2 exams AUD and FAR. Since I was used to taking them while studying, I took them with the exam supplemented with some with ear plugs. Helped me pass but I can't quantify how much damage I did to my body over those 5 months. Not a big coffee drinker so the 200 mg dosage (2 cups of coffee) helped me get through a few hundred MCQ a night through my 2 weeks of review for each exam. Again, I do not recommend this but damn it helped me.

Wow! Thanks everyone for sharing experiences, I think I might try taking some pre-workout for studying sessions. Working nine hours a day and then trying to study for four hours is not fun and as mentioned above it is only for short time so lets see how this goes!

I agree with the theory that you can supplement sleep with exercise.

logged in just to tell you to fning do it. Disclosure i only read the title, but if you like caffeine then you are automatically a smarter person. My science sources for this are not sound lol, but take something to wake up your brain for the test and pre-workout will do it, but only do as much as you are use to, exam day isnt the day to experiment with something new so only do your normal amount.
