Hello, I am post grad CPA student. Since I graduated with a concentration in Fiance I have to go back and take 10 additional upper level accounting classes before I can sit for the CPA. Currently I am on Class 1 but I decided to order my ROGER CPA Prep books to start looking at what it is that I will be studying for. Also I got the GREAT NEWS that the exam is going to change again in 2017. I have read some simulations but they read like novels and already thought that would be my weak point. Is 1.5 years enough to study for the CPA exam. The thickest book in my Roger Packet was the FAR…that thing looks really really really scary. I am glad I did not purchase the whole program because I just want to study the material first.

I wanted to know if anyone else studied using Rogers and had success. I cannot stand Wiley and the others were ok.

Any Tips on how to start studying would be great.

I mean I dont understand how I am supposed to prepare to answer simulations because I dont know what they will ask.

I start reading the FAR this week. Then will start the other books concurrently depending on how comfortable I feel.

    Thank you!

I have no experience with Roger. But, I wanted to tell you to stick with the study habits that worked best for you in college! Are you an audio learner? Visual? Do you learn by doing? Do flash cards help you? Stick with whatever has worked all your life!

Also, please don't neglect the simulations. Practice those too. Very helpful.

In high school and college, I always did best if I read the text book (lecture never helped me.) So for the CPA, here's how I studied each chapter of Becker:

    1) Read a chapter of the book and take notes while reading
    2) Practice multiple choice for the chapter, and take notes
    3) Practice the simulation for the chapter

*Somewhere in between, make flash cards as necessary and periodically review them until test day

**Most of the time, I would skip lecture and never watch the videos. I only watched the videos if I struggled with grasping a concept or if I was too lazy/tired to read or if I had enough time in the week. If I watched lecture, for me, it was most beneficial if I attempted to work on the multiple choice questions and/or read before watching lecture.

Good luck! This will take a lot of commitment. I compare it to a marriage. lol

Motivated by JC. I do it to make God proud.

Honestly I would focus on your classes for now. You will be learning exactly what is tested on the CPA anyways. The reviews are designed just for that as review. So they may not make sense all the time for someone who hasn't seen the material before.

Once you get a few of these ten classes under your belt then maybe think about starting to test. 1.5 years is plenty of time for most people depending on other commitments and how the exam process goes for them. Plus you only have 18 months from when you pass your first exam to when you have to pass them all so you kind of have to be done in 1.5 years.

If you study today and you are able to put in hundreds of hours, I am sure you can pass before 2017.

Roger lectures are soooo GREAT! and yes FAR is scary and is a beast. Roger breaks it down to 31 freaking chapters so you can better absorb the material.

You don't need to really prepare particularly for SIMS. After you go through thousands and thousands of MCQ, the thing you need to answer SIMS is already in your blood 🙂 Just spend two days in your final review time and go through all the SIMS that you have in review course and you are good to go.

If you study, you will pass 🙂
