I am retaking REG for the third time on January 3rd. I luckily have the next 3 weeks off to hit the books and study. Any advice or motivation to prep for the beast in 3 weeks? In particular a study routine!

I passed REG in just under 4 weeks by doing nothing but Ninja Mcq and reviewing ninja notes. I would do a minimum of 100 MCQ per day and read the notes 3-4 times a week. I got a nasty pass but still a pass!

First things first – your name is hilarious!

Getting down to business- It looks like you’ve been successful through your other exams. Did you change your study habits for REG? You know what they say, third times a charm!  I’m not a big fan of evaluating the failure reports that the states send out showing stronger, comparable, and weaker but I don’t think you have to get caught up on that too much (not that you have, but if it’s something you were considering).

If you’re getting caught up only using Becker for the MCQs, I’d go ahead and purchase the NINJA MCQs and work to understand the concepts (I did this for my last FAR attempt and it helped greatly). You already know what routine works for you, but I found it easy to get up an hour early to sneak in extra study time before work, eat in 15 minutes during lunch and study for 45 minutes, stay an hour after work to study (if possible), and then sneak in an hour at home later. Breaking up the studying for me, allowed my brain to comprehend and process the information I was studying rather than pushing my brain to fatigue. I’d also make notes (10 words or less for easy remembrance) of topics/ questions/ problem areas that you’d like to review. This helps you reinforce unfamiliar topics. Keep on working hard and go balls to the wall til the end!

I passed REG in about 3 weeks (started studying around April 20th and took the test on May 13th). I am no genius and work at a Big4 as an audit senior with multiple clients so.. It is doable when you sit down and give your best effort.

Yeah you should be fine. I say skim each section of the Becker book, focusing on highlighted materials, and then doing the MCQ.

@everybodyswaitingfortheCPA – i did not change my routine for REG at all. I am considering changing it for this time with the time crunch. The Becker lectures are helpful but I think my time is better fit for reading the book/notes and doing questions. I plan on buying the NINJA MCQs to supplement the Becker stuff i have.

I was in the same position as OP last score release. I tried to to do REG in 3.5 weeks but ended up with a 67. My main problem was that I memorized most of the Becker questions and was not able to afford Ninja MCQ at that time. I'm planning to get the Ninja MCQ by the end of this week to get me those extra points.

My advice is know taxation very well

Know about what benefits are taxable and what aren't

    Know how to calculate DNI

    Know AMT formula

Know what transactions are credits, deductions from/for AGI, and where in the tax form those are located

    Due Dates

Reconciling Book income to Tax Income

    FAR- 82
    REG- 93
    AUD- 89
    BEC- 88

You are smarter, more focused, and more brilliant than you give yourself credit for. Believe in yourself and truly know in your heart that you can do it.

I definitely wish I was one of those people who got all 4 exams done in 4 months, but unfortunately LIFE (being a newlywed, stress, adjusting to newlywed life and cpa exam study life, as well as starting a job with a Big4 which I am very happy about) got in the way, just happy that I am passing period!!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!
