Private tutor needed…

I have been using Becker and supplement doing Wiley’s MCQ’s and Sims. I cannot seem to pass REG or AUD and would ask anyone if they know about a private tutor, where to find one or if anyone can reference one etc. I live in the New York area and would want to get tutored either in NYC or in Staten Island (where I reside). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How many times have you taken Audit or Reg. The reason i ask is, its normal to fail it 2 or 3 times, but i think the bigger problem for you is becker. Becker is good, but it sometimes explains you the material in such a way that you get the feeling its going over your head.

Compare it to Yaeger it explains you every single thing in detail from scratch and it actually works like a private tutor. I am not advocating for them, in any way but i know i passed regulation on the 4th attempt after doing yaeger extensively.

I passed Audit with Roger, 2nd attempt he was simply superb. Only listening to his lectures and not do a thing, is GOLD.

But, i dont know of any private tutors.

I second what mene je twa said. I've sung praises about Yaeger so many times on this website that I'm sure other readers are going to think I work for them. But seriously, if they can get me, an average accounting student in college, the scores I got on these exams, then they deserve a lot of credit. I've also been out of school for a while (11+years) and haven't worked in accounting since 2004, so most of what I knew for the exam came from Yaeger.

Thanks for the help guys. I have taken REG 3 times (64, 72, 71) and AUD once (69). I do not plan on spending money on another review program, since I have Becker which is way expensive. I got the Wiley book from the local library, free :), and I am in the process of doing all of their MCQ's and Sims, just like I have done for Becker. I thought maybe a private tutor (1 on 1) would hone in on my weaknesses or maybe explain things better than what I understand them to be.

Yeah, you don't need another review course. Becker is great IMO.

If you know what areas you struggle with, say consolidations, borrow/rent/buy/get that big fat intermediate accounting textbook we all know and love. Look up the chapter that teaches the subject, and read that. You'll find that the textbook goes into far more detail than BECKER or the CPA exam ever does, which may help you grasp the concepts better. Personally, I think this is better than getting some random tutor.

But if you really do want a tutor, I think finding a student at a nearby university may be your best bet.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

There are some you tube videos that I've heard mentioned on this site before that are great study tools. I'm not sure what section(s) they cover and I can't remember the name of them. I'll start a new thread and try to find out.

Many local colleges offer live review type classes in this area. I was teaching a CMA class but they had a CPA class too. Super informal, but at least around here your teacher will have passed the test with high scores and have a masters of some sorts. They are not credit classes and don't replace a review course, but they are a great place to go ask questions and discuss issues your having trouble with.

    Oh- and it's SUPER cheap

I finally found the website I had wanted to tell you about. I've never used it but someone posted about this in a thread a few months ago.

It doesn't look like it covers AUD or REG though 🙁
