After my less than desirable experiences in the “fishbowl” at prometric on 2/25 (constant farter) and today (stinky cologne guy), I realized that people may have no idea how annoying or distracting their habits can be to other test takers! The rules of Prometric Etiquette are a collaborative document, so please add your feedback where you see fit.

The first rule of Prometric Etiquette is that you DO talk about the rules of Prometric Etiquete.

The second rule of Prometric Etiquette Club is that you should TALK ABOUT THE RULES OF PROMETRIC ETIQUETTE.

    Rule 3: NO farting. EVER.

Rule 4: NO pungent and overpowering perfume or cologne!

Rule 5: NO clearing your throat loudly and sharply every 90 seconds. And yes, I can still hear it with the jackhammer headphones on provided by my testing center. It makes me jump every time. F*cking stop it.

Rule 6: NO excessive chatter near the door to the testing room.

    Rule 7: ? 😉

Please don't seat children next to me, who feel like purposely dropping their pencil on the ground over and over again. And swiveling and spinning in their chair. You're not cute, kid.

Rule 9.. If you're going to sit me in the cubicle closest to the door, have the courtesy to be quiet when you're opening and closing the door 20 million times while I'm in there for 4 hours.

How about the talker. The one who whispers as they are taking an exam next to you. Seriously quiet time kid.

Or the obnoxiously loud typer…like pounding on each key for what must have been a written exam. If you are taking some sort of written exam you should already know how to type.

My favorite…to the test center employee. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT come up and grab someones leg while they have headphones on and are taking an exam. It kills the concentration. (I was sitting on my leg, my feet dont touch the ground so its more comfortable for me, and this guy came up and grabbed my leg and told me to keep my dirty feet off his chair..nearly flipped on him.)

Wait I have another one related to a testing center employee. DO NOT under any circumstances tell someone their exam “was not recorded” because you are confused what the symbols on your screen mean. 🙂

I am glad I'm not at the prometric centers you guys go to…I haven't had any of these experiences.

My only complaint would be sitting beside the finger print scanner that the employees have to use every time they walk into the room.

Instead of obviously clueless prometric employee asking “Are you Pregnant?” (before scanning with the metal detector), why not ask “is there any reason that scanning you with a metal detector would be unsafe?”

I thought the jerk was trying to remind me how fat I am 😉

The woman walking people in to seat them for their exams had on the STRONGEST PERFUME EVER in my BEC exam. Every time she walked past me, I almost gagged. So hard to keep concentration when a waft of air as the Prometric lady walks by makes it hard for you to breathe.

My testing center is great, personnel is nice even friendly young chicks. The only complaint is blasting air conditioner.

But there was experience during the first test involving an elderly guy looking around 70, sitting two chairs away had been sweating profusely, shaking his head, making faces, mumbling something, wiping his face that seems the entire time he was in the testing room (around 2 hours). I was afraid for his well-being, he had all signs of hypertension if not of a impending heart attack. I wanted but had no chance to ask him afterwards what in the world was he testing for. Heavens forbid to be in his position!

@mla, no kidding, they are actually asking this question?!

@seattle my testing center has a strong a/c system too, but I like it. It drowns out all the other noises in the room. Just bring a sweater 🙂

    1. @mla1169 – You are a better person than I am, I would have punched him!

    2. I think they keep the rooms cold because the computers generate a lot of heat and heat slows them down. So, yeah, bring a sweater.

    3. Tell the staff before you start that when you fill up a notecard you want a clean one and NOT a ball of a snot like substance.

    4. TAKE A BATH!! The last exam I took, I swear the guy sitting two seats away hadn't bathed in a month. I wanted so badly to give him my balls of snot like substance just to freshen up with!

@neika822: I didn't realize they let kids into Prometric centers – what are they testing for?

Personally, I have no complaints about the center I go to – staff is really nice and competent and the facility itself is comfortable (I always bring a jacket, just in case) with no loud A/C. The fact that it's less than 2 miles from my place is a huge bonus.

The only notable thing I could mention is that they recently had a staffing change – while the new staff was still nice and competent, the lady who checked me in could have used some additional “coverage.” I mean, I couldn't keep my eyes off those things! I feel bad for the guys who come in to test, see the twins, and completely forget everything they had studied so hard for in one ogle. 😉

how about those excessive leg shakers… which in turn shakes the table and then shakes all the monitors that are all on that same connected table… is this just me?

I was so annoyed I wanted to get up and roundhouse kick that person.

    Sorry, that was probably me…
