Prometric noisy generator

I sat FAR yesterday (May 12th) and was so frustrated not with the exam but with Prometric. I took tests before at 1 Penn Plaza on the 17th floor and never had any issue. For lack of space i booked FAR also at Penn Plaza on the 15th floor. Well that was a mistake. First my computer shut down twice, once just before the test started and the second time 5 questions into the first testlet. So both times they took me outside and i asked for another computer. This did not affect the time left but it is a little annoying when you are in a state of mind just trying to get in the zone. But this was not so bad as i managed to keep calm. But the worst thing was, the room i was in had a very lousy generator. I first i thought it was the A.C., but one of the staff informed me that it was actually a generator. Can you imagine taking an exam and not be able to “hear” yourself think, let alone concentrate. Because i had to concentrate so much through the M.C. I left only 1h25min for the SIM. The first 10 minutes of the SIM was again trying to get over the noise and concentrate on what the questions were asking. So it really left me only 1:15 for the SIMs which is really not enough. I did one research quickly and can’t remember seeing another research question (are there always 2 research TBS). The other TBS well, i did not think they were particularly hard but the layout of the tables and what they were really asking was an educated guest for some. I think there’s 2 SIMs i feel ok about, 1 kind of ok. So 4 SIMs where it’s all a crapshoot. I have a feeling i might have to retake this one, not for the lack of effort. As anyone thought they failed with the SIMS by missing some and answering some barely and passed?

You should write an email to the Candidate Care email address about the situation. When I took BEC there was constant drilling on the outside of my exam wall. I know I bombed the written communication because I could not concentrate enough to make coherent sentences. Luckily it was BEC and not another exam because it's possible to do poorly ont he WC and pass. You can't pass without doing well on SIMS. That being said, I have heard of people leaving a couple of SIMS blank and still passing.

Did you take ear plugs with you? I didn't want to hear anything – not my nervous breathing or my stomach growling… absolutely nothing at all – when I took the exam, so I took a pair of excellent quality shooting ear plugs and used their noise cancellation headphones as well. It worked well for me.

@Super_CPA: I had regular earplugs and I find their noise cancellation headphones useless. Where do you find those earplugs you are talking about?

@CPAMommyof3: I did write to candidate care and no response so far and will call as well. As for the 2 last sentences I am not sure if it is discouraging or encouraging, but then again, I asked the question.

I got them from Cabelas and unfortunately since I don't have them in their original packaging I don't know what the brand is. They are the small foam ear plugs.

I use the Hearos ultimate ear plugs (small foam ear plugs) when studying and they are pretty good too. Since I used my last pair of Cabelas ear plugs on my first exam, I will be using Hearos ear plugs on the next one. They will work for sure. I got these ones from Amazon.

I think it's the similar type of earplugs that I used. I actually studied with them while there was some construction across my street and they were pretty good at blocking everything. But because the generator noise was just outside the window, it was really bad. Another person went out to complain, but I did not want to waste any precious time myself.

Anyway, we'll have to wait and see on this one.
