Prometric Rant: FAR exam

I had my exam scheduled for today at 12:30 pm. I’ve been studying for the exam for about 7-8 weeks now and u can imagine how badly I wanna get this over with. They signed me in, took my fingerprints, and took my pic. And then made me do that all over again…twice. Long story short, I never got to do my exam.

The ladies at the center were in contact with the Prometric IT or whatever they call it, and I sat there waiting because they told me it would only take awhile and that it will be fixed. First they said it would be 20 minutes, and then that turned into “just 5 more minutes”. I ended up waiting FOUR HOURS for my exam…no joke!! I would have walked out but I’m sure u can all understand that it’s not always easy to take a day off of work and plus, when u schedule, u have taken days to prepare urself mentally, psychologically, emotionally, etc for this day!! HOW ANNOYING!!!!!!!

They never solved the problem (whatever the hell it is). Apparently there was something wrong with my exam. I don’t understand why they couldn’t just give me a new one?? So now I have to wait for Prometric to give me a call to reschedule. I’m so looking forward to that call cuz i’m gonna blow up in their face. Oh and I also think I’m entitled to a refund for lack of clear info on the problem all though out my 4 hours…and not to mention the inconvenience that came with this.

End of rent. I feel better now 🙂 But seriously, who wants to study FAR all over again? And yes I do still need to study because the info doesn’t stick for very long.

That is a horrible story. Srry.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

rana_cali: WOW! What a horror story!!! I would be SO pissed myself if I were you!!! Which location is that? I am guessing somewhere in California….. I've always been annoyed with the “short survey” after each exam because after answering 90 MCQs and doing the SIMS, having to answer some stupid questions about the testing center, etc. is THE LAST thing I feel like doing – so I figured, I would just do “average”/”satisfactory” for all without even reading them 😛 But now I can see that some of you could actually complain about something!

I hope it all turns out for the better for you!

PS. The Zodiac Sign thing is an inside joke 😉

That's sounds awful, I'm so sorry that you had to go through that! The silver lining might be that you're better off being able to decompress/study for a few days instead of having to take the exam after sitting there for hours stewing away inside. I ended up having to take FAR about 30-40 minutes late b/c of some technical issues that backed up the check-in process and it totally threw me off…and that was only 30+ minutes!!! Hang in there…it'll all be okay in the end.

    REG - 86
    FAR - 80
    BEC - 79
    AUD - 92...I'm done woohoo!

I've read dozens of prometric horror stories on here, and sorry you had to go through that! And I agree that you are entitled to a refund but can almost 100% guarantee you that Prometric will not see it that way. They'll tell you that you can retake it without a fee, big deal.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

That really sucks. Glad you picked yourself up and are getting back into the “game.” I believe everything happens for a reason and sometimes the horrible things have a learning experience for us, if we look back a few years later.

    CPA - Since 2015
    CISA - Smashed 2012
    CIA - Passed 2015

I had something similar happen when I took FAR. They were just about to tell me I had to reschedule after waiting 3.5 hours but someone else's test finished early so they managed to squeeze me in. I wrote a nasty email to NASBA about it, but they were just like “we'll forward this to the appropriate people at Prometric”. Regardless, you should definitely contact NASBA as well and complain, because there are other testing centers they could use. I hope you get your retake over soon and everything goes smoothly next time.

    REG - 76 (7/13)
    FAR - 83 (8/13)
    BEC - 87 (10/13)
    AUD - 84 (1/14)

@rana_cali If this makes you feel better, I think is worst when you travel from abroad… probably is a good sign after all, you have few more days to review, review and review.. so, good luck!
