Protecting my eyes

    Hello A71’ers,

My job consists of staring at a computer screen 8 hours a day and then I am adding more hours to that by studying on my computer at home which is making my eyes feel tired. Does anyone know any methods to reduce the stress on your eyes? Do computer glasses work? Gunnar makes some glasses aimed for gamers, although they are a little pricey, if they truly work, i’d consider it.

    Thanks

Curious about this also, my eyesight has been worsening quickly and my optometrist said it's probably mostly due to staring at a computer screen plus having these phones that we spend a lot of time staring at/texting up close doesn't help our vision either.

She recommended when working on the computer to look away every 20 mins or so, and stare at something that is far away. When we stare at screens we don't blink often which may worsen eyesight.

But I was also wondering if there is a screen or something that I can place over my computer screen to help my eyes. Does anyone use something like this?

I read online the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds, look at something 20 feet away. I have it posted by my desk and do it maybe once a day. I saw an eye doctor though, because my eyes had been hurting. It turns out I have extremely dry eyes. Ever since I started using my eye drops regularly, they do not hurt while I work. I use systane ultra, per the doctor's recommendation.

My dr recommended systane ultra for my dry eyes also, it has definitely helped a lot more than any other drops I tried.

I am half blind, which lately has been driving me nutsss because my good eye gets so strained while I'm studying. A few things that I do that might help you too is printing out material and questions to practice while you take a break from looking at the screen. Also, make sure your posture is good and the computer is an arms length away from you and not too bright 🙂

I also do some exercises every day that tend to help. Here's a link for some examples:
