How long does it usually take to hear back after you applied?

I had an internal person passed my resume along to a CPA firm where she works for. It’s a regional firm, assurance staff position. It’s been a week and I have heard nothing from them. Since an internal employee passed my resume directly to HR coordinator, I thought I would have a good shot.. But being silence makes me worried. I looked up LinkedIn and looks like the firm has just one HR coordinator (I found so far). Is that the reason taking so long?

Recruiting is generally done in “seasons” and this might not be their prime recruiting time–therefore your resume is on file until they fire up their recruiting efforts. If you meet all the firm's qualifications you'll likely hear from them at some point. Have your friend drop HR an email.

I've interviewed with 5 firms in the past couple weeks..no internal all me busting my ass..

Rejected one mid size firm because the partner that interviewed me was an A-Hole and I would have been miserable working there.

Then have an interview monday with a national firm..had two interviews with LARGE national firms..

Just wait..from what Ive read its a good sign if you havent heard back from them in a couple weeks, as it means you have not been rejected..Firms take months sometimes to hire on..

If you havent interviewed yet they may not be hiring..what market are you in?

I'm worried because the firm is actually hiring multiple positions and posted an ad on LinkedIn and its website. I decided to drop off my resume after saw the ad. The internal person is actually not my friend. I have coordinated with her to do my company taxes and I think she liked how I worked. So when I asked her to pass along my resume, she did it and also gave me some tips (skills her firm always looks for) to add on my resume and told me to stay tuned!

I also applied a national firm and got a call the next day. Then they disappeared for almost 2 weeks and called me back to ask more questions as well as apologized for being delay. Now they disappeared again (they said I would hear back today but I did not). I just don't understand what they are doing! I never had interviews with public accounting before, just don't know how the hiring process goes.
