Hey guys, I am starting as an audit associate in January at PwC in NYC. I was wondering if any of you could tell me about what orientation is like? Is it mostly classroom setting? Does it require travel or does it take place in the NYC office?

    Thanks for all the help!

@r00shine I'm in the same boat- NYC starting Jan 4 @ PwC. Cant speak as to the orientation setting obviously, but I did read that everything will be in NYC and that there is no travel. I have an intro/orientation call this week with my team.. hoping I get some more details then.

Is anyone here working in Private Client Services (PCS) or have any experience working in PCS? I will be starting in PCS, but, have no idea what this type of industry is about or what types of clients one will have working in this industry.

My full time orientation is Jan 4th in Atlanta. I interned twice and my buddy recently wrapped up orientation this past September. He said it is a lot like the intern orientation. It was in a classroom setting. You get your laptop, they teach you how to use the email client (don't know if they've transitioned to gmail or if lotus notes is still the email client).
I did a risk assurance internship so we spent half the week learning accounting basics and the next half learning about controls and all that jazz. Our instructors were cool and we had little energizers throughout training.

Tips: don't be late. interact with the instructors and the other associates in training. Be nice to your instructors (you might work with them later on). Don't be afraid to ask questions.

@passthecpa7- my buddy worked in pcs out west. He loved it. It is as its name appears… These are private clients.. Aka not publically traded. They can be any sector.

@r00shine- hows the call go today bud? Was it just a standard hello and welcome? Or was there more to it?

Private client services for tax are basically individuals and their closely held entities. For audit it would be non publically traded as someone mentioned. I think PCS gives you the broadest experience of all the practices for tax. That being said I think PCS is probably the best place to be in tax when you want to eventually move to a smaller firm or open your own tax firm and the worst place to work if you dont want to stay in public accounting. For audit you may end up not as marketable for publically traded companies but could potentially have a more diverse portfolio of experience.
