    Hi,

I start as a NYC PWC Risk Assurance associate in process assurance (Products and services) this upcoming July. I interned last summer in this field, but my experience was limited. As I prepare to start my career I can’t help but to have some hesitation on whether this is the right department for me. Where will this put me in 4-5 years? Will I get pigeonholed? To be honest, after earning a degree in accounting I think I like the IT side better than Financial Services anyway. So though I may not hate it, I’m also concerned about my future options as I’d rather not stay in public accounting forever or do IT forever.

Can anyone speak from experience? Thanks.

Hence why I'm getting my CPA over the CISA. So I have more options.

I was an MIS and Accounting major, started out as a software developer working on accounting applications right out of school. I then went to EY in their Risk Assurance department as a Staff 2. I was there for about a year, moved up to senior and realized I didn't enjoy the work that much. I was able to transition back to software development with ease.

If software development isn't your thing, I saw several seniors and managers move into internal audit roles at companies, several people left for more of IT Security Roles and Business Analysts. It all depends on what type of jobs you get placed on. Risk Assurance at EY encompases a lot of different areas and I was able to help out on several different types of audits including, PCI, HIPAA, HITRUST, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, and much more.

I would say your first couple years won't pigeon hole you too much
