Question about teaching with CPA/MBA

So my long term goal is to teach accounting at the college level. I know there’s a lot of people out there that will say that I should get the PhD. That is certainly an option, and there’s a chance that I may do that one day. But let’s say for the purposes of this post that I just want to find a teaching job with the CPA/MBA combo. I know it’s definitely attainable – all my college profs were CPA/MBAs (except for one who only had a bachelors degree and a CPA).

This might sound like a stupid question, but does it matter what I get my MBA in? The firm I work for has a need for auditors with an IT background, and they might pay for me to get an MBA with a focus in information systems. Do schools typically require CPAs with an MBA to have a certain amount of graduate credits in accounting? My concern is that I will get an MBA, but schools won’t hire me to teach accounting because I don’t have enough graduate credits in accounting.

I can always get an MBA with an accounting concentration or go for a MAcc, but I would likely have to pay out of pocket for those.

    Any thoughts?

I have found having the IT is also a huge help… When I did my BA I majored in IT before I found my love of accounting. I got an MBA with Accounting concentration and have always excelled above my peers because I can write a ton of really great excel formulas, dissect problems with programs, etc. I would say that you can always add the accounting concentration later if it becomes a barrier. If their willing to pay, I would totally do it. Knowledge is power!!
