I bought the Gleim Test bank for REG. Honestly, the book is a bit overwhelming at times and I have tried to do every problem in each sub-unit, but sometimes there are 50-60 problems in a sub-unit. I feel like it is taking me way too long to get through all the material. Do you guys just do the 20 questions per sub-unit that Gleim recommends? I’m wondering if that is more efficient. I can always go back and do the problems I haven’t seen later. I also bought the Ninja questions so I have those to work on as well.

Yes, do it in sections of 20 random questions. Do multiple quizzes before moving on to the next unit.

Keep doing tests of 20 questions until you feel like you get it and score well. Do not attempt to do ALL questions.

Hey Michael,

For me it depends on the amount of time you have before the exam and daily study schedule. I (studying full time, not working, Big4 start in August) go through a study unit a day, taking notes on the AV Presentation and Video Lectures, then do all MCQ per section and simulations. I find using the test prep mode and going through each MCQ, however very time consuming, is the best route as you get instant feedback on correct and incorrect answers and the reasoning why. If the time commitment is too much I would do 10, 20, 30 question quizzes on the test prep.

You have to go through every single questions. I know it sucks and time consuming, but all the questions they provide touches on all areas of the unit and shows you all different unique problems and how to solve them.

I took REG already, and I will say that there are some subunits that do contain 60-80 problems. I did them all even if it took 2-3 hours in one sitting.

Gleim is overwhelming but ppl swear by it… I am hoping the tough MCQs pay off. Their SIMs are very similar to the actual exam and i have taken this beast multiple times…

I am among those who swear by it. I started off doing it my way and obsessing over every detail. Dr Gleim phoned me and encouraged me to use their suggested study steps. I did that and my worst score on an exam was an 85. The only ‘enhancements' i made to their steps is that i did not move on from a unit unless i could score at least 80-85 consistently (instead of a 75) on a randomized mcq of 20 questions over the unit, i often used study sessions over practice exams, and i gave myself at least 2 weeks for the final review instead of 1.

Important : please note that Gleim does not recommend just 20 questions per unit, as your question seemed to suggest. It is a 20 question mcq before you start, then the audiovisual presentation, then the tf quiz, then read the chaper (doing the little quizzes in the book per subunit), then the second mcq of 20 questions, then at least two random mcqs of 20 until you score either 75 or better (i aimed for at least 80-85), and then the sim and the sim wizard (one each). I will review the sims at the time and review especially bad or hard ones again weeks later to refresh my memory.

I only bought the Test Prep so I don't have access to all the other things you mentioned. I just meant that it recommends 20 questions per sub unit as the optimal size of a multiple choice study session. I really like it as it is much more thorough than Roger's questions, which is what I used to pass AUD and BEC. I felt like I needed more practice for REG and will purchase the Gleim questions for FAR as well

Sorry, you mentioned the book, so I thought you had the gleim book. The MCQs are by far the biggest component. I would just keep doing sets of 20 random until you're scoring consistently well. I also like to go back and do a random selection of all completed units to date once in a while as i am forgetful to begin with and there's so much to remember! If there are concepts you need extra help remembering, make a flash card and flag pertinent questions, as you can choose flagged questions to form a new test later on and see how well you remember. If you buy just the Test Prep, they mail you the book as well. So I am reading through a sub-unit in the book and then doing questions on it. I take notes on what I missed or what I am slightly confused on and also type up all calculations that I may need to remember.

I appreciate it! That is what I really like about Gleim. I like the fact that you can create tests based on what you missed. That's huge. I had to use Gleim in college for both my Audit courses and I hated it at the time. It's funny that I am now relying on it to get me through my last two exams. I never thought that would happen.

I hated gleim because i started out with auditing and all the questions had more than one correct answer and were terribly misleading. I complained a lot and was told time and time again the questions i didnt like came from prior cpa exams. It prepared me well for the test (and the others), which, as we all know, is full of misleading questions with more than one correct answer.

If you hammer out all of the Gleim MCQs and read the book I'm fairly certain you can pass. Gleim over prepares you but it is also a bit comforting to know that you covered everything. Thumbs up for Gleim, just stick with it and you'll be happy.
