For those who have taken BEC, question for you. I have read numerous times that many of you feel a lot of exam questions came out of left field or that you felt like you studied for a different test. Was that in reference to the theory questions or computations? I would assume theory but just curious because those statements have me a little worried about the exam lol.

Mainly theory. I think as long as you studied hard, you should pass. Stay confident!

    BEC - 81
    FAR - 76

    Never give up!

I got 4 questions on what I thought was a fairly narrow subject and they were theory They were spread through the testlets so it was probably by chance. I also got at least 2 FAR questions with one of them I had no clue. I had never even heard the term. I passed with an 88 so I guess I was prepared.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker

I had a question on a topic I had never even heard of before, and I was very thorough with the test materials.

I also had another question on a very small detail which I told myself “no way that will be tested” and in hindsight I kicked myself for not knowing.

If you are using a reputable review program, you should be fine. I've taken each section of this exam, and received several questions from left field on each one. When you see these types of questions, you just need to have the attitude that if you've never seen it before, 95% of the other CPA exam candidates haven't seen it either. You just need to stick to your plan and trust “the system.”

I used Kaplan and I only felt one or two questions were on topics I had never seen before. I think the reason most people feel that way is because there are SO many topics covered with BEC that it's hard to get a good review of every single thing. It could have been one line in the study material so we may not even rember our material covering it.
