Question regarding hiring at the Big 4 and other National Firms

I recently transitioned into the accounting profession after spending seven years as a commercial real estate broker. The transition involved going back through an accounting program at a University, and passing all four of the CPA exams. I took a job with a small public accounting firm where I do mostly individual taxes and corporate taxes. If I spend enough time with this firm, I should be able to get the experience requirement nailed but the place is definitely is not a very good fit for me.

Since I’m out of school and can’t go through the college recruiting channels, is there another way to get noticed by some of the bigger firms? I’ve been reaching out to some of the recruiters who I talked to during school but there isn’t much of a reception from them.

Any feedback you all have would be great. Thank you.

Attend networking events (ie: CalCPA here in California), hit up recruiters on LinkedIn (ie: search Deloitte San Francisco Campus Recruiter) and tell them a version of what you told us, apply on public accounting firm websites under experienced hire (while you might be after something near-entry level, it will get your name in the system).

I agree with acamp except I'd actually apply as campus hire/entry level if you're shooting for an audit position.
