Can someone explain which one is better to use? My aunt has a business and asked me (an accountant) which one is better but I’m an auditor and don’t really deal with these programs. Anyone?

QuickBooks is much more popular and as such has more people who will know how to help her and more resources for tutorials and information (YouTube etc.). I hadn't heard of AccountEdge before but Googled it and looks like it's Mac-specific. If she has a Mac, then someone with a Mac might be better able to advise if QuickBooks is stable on a Mac or if you need a special Mac program.

Is she using mac or windows? The Quickbooks for mac is not nearly as good as the windows one, so it makes a significant difference.

I haven't heard of Account Edge but I agree with bear — QB for Mac isn't nearly as good as it is for Windows and the payroll module is a little bit harder to maneuver around on the Mac.

Thank you! She has a MAC but when she told me she bought AccountEdge (there was some Groupon for it) I had to look it up because I never heard of it. Once I tried to go into the program it was really confusing too (I'm used to how easy QuickBooks is)

AccountEdge Pro is the most robust accounting program for the Mac, with full inventory capabilities, integrated payroll, robust job costing for construction companies, retainers and escrow accounts for lawyers, built-in multi-currency,and a third level of transaction categorization in addition to jobs and categories (classes) called departments. It also has a Windows version which is free to accountants that is virtually identical and files from the Mac can be opened on the Windows version without conversion and vice versa.

That said, it doesn't mean it is the best option for all businesses that are using Macs to run their business. Other options are AccountEdge Basic, QuickBooks for Mac, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Wave, and Sage One, to name a few. So it depends on the type of business and what they need to run the business.

I have never heard of AccountEdge, but I have used Quickbooks for 5 years, on both PC and Mac. I have also used Quickbooks online for about 3 years. I work in public accounting and I normally see people using Quickbooks. The big issue to me is compatibility. Quickbooks can be easily converted and sent back and forth from PC to Mac, from client to CPA and back, into Excel (which is then convertible into almost any other accounting program).

I use only PC at work, but I only use a Mac at home. I don't have any issues working on the QB version for Mac. However, as much as I like my Mac, I don't see that it is useful yet to run other accounting specific programs. I feel that we have a high degree of technology at the office and we run all PC.
