Random: Pencil Grips

I have had a non-typical pencil grip since I was a little kid. I can write legibly, its just that my grip looks funny compared to others. During interviews I never wrote anything in front of the interviewer in fear of them thinking less of me. A very critical friend once told “I would never hire anyone that holds a pencil like you”. I am wondering if anyone has any experiences or thoughts on this subject?

Do you, or anyone you work with, have a strange pencil grip? What type of impression does that make on you? How do you think it reflects to a supervisor?

I hold my pens/pencils the same way. I didn't realize I was doing it the “wrong” way. I do have the ugly bump on my ring finger though. I am still sitting here trying to figure out which way is the “right” way….

I sure hope my pencil grip wouldn't change the way my superiors thought of me. There are just too many other things I think supervisors should be worrying about besides the way someone holds a pencil.

I've got a weird pen/pencil grip using my index, middle, ring and thumb to hold the pencil/pen/chopsticks. I've tried using the “standard” grip, but my handwriting is still chickenscratch. Also, no one cares as long as your writing is sort of legible. I tell people I have the handwriting of a doctor. Now if I only had the paycheck of a doctor to go with it…

Yeah this is ridiculous. You don't even need good handwriting. You can just type everything. My handwriting only needs to be legible to me which is all it is. I think of it like a secret code..

Honestly if someone has the time and is so critical as to comment on a pencil grip, it is someone you wouldn't want to work for. I have a neurological condition which makes handwriting almost impossible and when I am able to even hold a pencil, nobody would ever be able to read what I wrote. It doesn't bother me at all, and the very few people who have commented on it are very sorry they ever did.

mla11692 is absolutely right, any place that wouldn't hire you because of how you grip a pencil isn't a place you want to work for anyway.

As long as it's legible, you're fine; and even that probably doesn't matter. The only hand-written things I have on my desk right now are just notes and reminders for me.
