Can anyone rank the Chapters of Becker for REG from most important or tested to least?

Outside of Becker, maybe just the most tested concepts vs. the least.

I have heard that R4 is tested heavily, which is property, estates/trusts, gift tax …

Also, what are the most likely culprits for simulations?

    TIA!

If I had to rank them:

    1. R5 – Approximately 20% of the exam, mostly just memorization, some of the easiest points to be had on any of the exams

2 – 5 (tie). R1 – R4 – I'd rank them as a tie because they're all equally important, I remember seeing about the same amount of content from all four chapters. Tax is 60% of the exam so figure each of these chapters will represent 15% of your exam

6 – 7 (tie). R6 – R7 – Blaw is only 20% of the exam, so you won't see a lot of material from these sections, but the problem is these chapters require a lot of time because the questions can be pretty tricky

    8. R8 – A lot of miscellany that is not heavily tested. Definitely devote time to agency and business structures, but if you need to prioritize then the chapters on tax and ethics will be much more important.

As for sims, anything is possible, but like the rest of the exam tax is probably going to make up the majority of whatever you see so prioritize accordingly.

I read on here somewhere that they don't really have Business law sims … Is that true?

The business law portion doesn't lend itself well to the sims because there really aren't any calculations and the concepts are relatively simple to grasp. You'll likely get mainly tax questions for the sims. That means you should expect quite a few MCQs on business law since it makes up approx 40%. I think major emphasis would be on individual, partnership and corporate taxation for sims. Good luck!

Here's the deal. Go through the BLaw chapters of Becker, read them over, understand them, do all the homework once (Do sims if you have time- I didn't) And then stop. I wasted SO. MUCH. TIME. on the BLaw chapters when I realized my time would have been much better utilized just drilling Chapters 1-4, then knowing chapter 5 to pick up little easy points. The stuff from 1-4 you should practice enough that it comes like second nature. Timing on this exam was a huge battle for me and I ultimately didn't finish 2 sims. Don't make that mistake.

I spent a ton of time going through chapters 1-4 taking super detailed notes which helps so so so much for understanding. I can't stress enough how much hand writing your notes helps commit things to long term memory. And especially with different tax stuff- being able to draw out diagrams, make notes in the margins, etc made my reviewing these topics a lot easier. I even went as far as dedicating one highlighter color for income items, one highlighter for adjustments, one for itemized, one for credits, etc. That way I was already grouping things together and structuring them in terms of the ‘big picture'.

I started doing the same detailed notes thing for blaw chapters and half way through B7 I realized how much of a waste of time it was for only 20% of the exam total for 3 chapters. Too many little details and info tidbits that are not worth writing out. Better to read it, understand it, move on. Most likely won't be tested on it. Know the big things obviously. From what I can remember from my test is that I wasn't surprised by any of the BLaw questions. It was all things that were pointed out during lecture as most likely to be tested.

Saying this, do make sure you at least understand business law concepts. No you don't have to know every single little detail 100% bc questions will be conceptual and if you know big points you can eliminate. But you should have an understanding of it, do all the homework at least once and take notes on why you got questions wrong. Mark the questions you got wrong and do a quick review of those later. But if you are short for time, these chapters can take the backseat to all the actual tax stuff in 1-4. If you have time after 1-4 come back to BLaw.
