Re-score? Or is that a dumb idea?

    I got by AUD results…. Failed with a 68!!!

HOWEVER, the diagnostics came back, and said i was WEAKER on the sims than average.

This seems impossible, because I used the Authoritative Literature to answer most of the sims, and I found just about everything. I double and triple checked it too. I just don’t see how I could have done poorly in that section.

Although, could it be that the scoring machine got lazy and didn't grade your sims?! Maybe?!

But then there is the rule if you leave feeling like you did great on a section… LOL

Maybe you missed a second answer tab, and/or you misunderstood the instructions for a tab with lots of answers?

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Seriously–Are there second answer tabs? I don't recall seeing those in any test. That better not have been my issue for REG!

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

To be blunt – yes, it's a dumb idea. Being generous and assuming you fully understood the questions and the Authoratative Literature, the most likely scenario is that you f-d up your credits/debits and positives/negatives.

It simply is not sensible to believe that your SIMs were mis-graded.

You will file your rescore request, pay money and then get a generic form letter back informing you that your grade was correct. You will still not know exactly what went wrong.

Also, you did not score a 68 by missing one SIM (Or one mysterious second answer tab that no one has ever seen on an exam).

Reschedule the exam and practice your SIMs.

    REG - 94
    BEC - 92
    FAR - 92
    AUD - 99

I read of here of someone getting second answer tabs while I was waiting for my REG score, which made me panic. I had to think back and picture in my head if it was possible that there were second answer tabs on mine.

Also, we were suggesting ways that the OP got “weaker” on sims, not the 68.

@OP Don't waste your time on a re-score. My third round with Audit entailed 160+ hours, 2000+MCQs, notes, SIMS, 88% average in WTB, aka the whole wahzoo and I got a…..68. I was too focused on memorization rather than in depth understanding of the complete audit process. In fact, I memorized most of the WTB. After receiving that score, I went back into the test bank and instead of selecting the correct answer I forced myself to reason out why the others were wrong…I couldn't do it!! I was so focused on picking A because I knew it was right but I couldn't tell you why without spiting out some crazy mnemonic that had no logic. A 68 means that conceptually you aren't tight enough with the details. Believe me, those details will kill you in Audit land.

I don't know what materials you are using but the Wiley textbook in it's dry and boring glory is what put me over the hump. I went through that book cover to cover taking notes on each chapter, doing all assigned MCQs and Sims, and referring back to the AL when prompted to do so. I made diagrams of the audit plan, made my own flashcards, and would force my husband to listen my attempts to “teach” the concepts to him (he is a saint!!!). Change your approach and focus on the details!

Sorry my post so cliche. I'm just really surprised. You see, I failed FAR before with a 62. HOWEVER, I sort of expected to fail, and didn't think that was even a horrible grade. I wasn't really prepared for IFRS and Governmentals, and got pounded with it on the test.

With AUD, however, I felt I was ready. I went on Becker, erased all my work, and breezed through it again top to bottom in a few days, getting in the 90's. And when I took the test, I finished early, thinking I aced it.

Which leads me to my point……These tests are wacked. Luck has to play into it. Since absolutely NO ONE knows how these things are really scored, I'm assuming you just take it and hope your lucky test shows up.

“A man makes his own luck” Billy Zane. Titanic. Luck has little to do with the cpa exam. Its about preparation. I hate to be the one to have to bring the swift hand of justice but you just need to accept that u weren't properly prepared. Try to focus on your weak areas. A score report is not going to change a 74 let alone a score in the 60s. Check out your score report and try to determine what areas u need to work on to be properly prepared next time.

Of course luck is a factor. It's not a huge factor, but it's definitely a factor. There are different versions of the test, and you can walk in and get thoroughly tested on all of your weak areas, or you can end up with a test that skips your weak areas, or somewhere in between. Preparation is most of the battle, but which version of the test you end up with definitely plays a part. I don't know what you call that, but I call it luck.

And unfortunately, focusing on your weak areas is likely to make the previously strong areas weak. Jeff says restudy everything fresh. The score report is a bunch of hooey anyway.

Definitely agree with Kim. There are a lot of people who get 70-74 and fail even though they might passed had they taken a different test the day earlier. Vice-versa, too, I'm sure. As your preparation gets better, your mean score should go up and the variance attributed to luck should decrease a little, but it's impossible to eliminate it all.

And _Nick_'s right, of course. Save the money. Don't ask for a re-score.

Kim is right to the point on this one. The score reports are fun to look at, but should be taken lightly. Your actual score is more reliable than your score report by far.

If you got a 68, you're not prepared.

    Try again.

If you do re-score, please share how it turns out. I'm interested to know how they work.
