@SBNY2K17 I’d still say tax heavy but a little on the lower end of what the blueprint prescribes. If anything, the fact that I don’t believe I totally bombed any sims will save me

My exam was tough.. – I flagged a TON of multiple choice. I couldn't even tell if my multiple choice got easier or harder because they both felt tough to me. I took REG a year ago before and failed by 5 points and I cant remember if I felt like this….SIMS were okay, but had one that completely threw me for a loop…Hoping for the best

I took Regulation today! I felt better with more time with my Ninja study tools (if you haven't bought it yet- just do it. Best decision I ever made). Personally, I had a ton of B-Law and “tax position” questions. The AL question was easy, and I had don't think I totally bombed a SIM. I recommend studying B-Law, Entity and property transactions. I has very little Individual Tax. I put in like 80+ hours on Ninja and Wiley, but they still find ways to trip you up on the exam.

I took REG today. MCQs were hard. Not a lot of calculations though, but questions that would make you go “huh?” Don't skip property transactions, Ethics, B-Law and entities taxation. I saw a Looooooooooot of questions on Ethics. TBS was okay except for one crazy one that tested 1 paragraph material in the wiley book. It's a very basic subject, but they made it really confusing but putting it in a MCQ. I did all of Wiley TBS and did not encounter anything similar, so I hope and pray it is a pretest. I also got 3 MCQ on that same subject. For TBS, don't skip Entities taxation. know entities taxation inside and out. Individuals taxation TBS was easy. I don't remember seeing a MCQ question on individual taxation. I felt a little confident after FAR, but got a 77. I don't feel confident at all right now, so hopefully I will pass. I'm taking BEC next. I hope BEC is a walk in “Duke Gardens” comparing to FAR and REG.

I think you can tell how I think my REG exam went by my comments. I had 8 questions related to revenue rulings and substantial authority. EIGHT. In becker that represents maybe half a page and they don't even go over revenue rulings in detail in the book. I had to rely on my knowledge from tax in college to develop a guess. Also, i maybe had 5 questions on basis calculations for the MCQ and that is the one topic i really understand. The SIMS weren't terrible but I don't think I got any of them 100% right maybe with the exception of the AL one.

REG MCQ's were brutal for me and appear that way for most people this quarter. I did so many practice questions and felt great about the MCQ's before my test but afterwards was a different story. I am barely confident that I even got half of them correct ugh. Sims were fair so hopefully that will pull me through

I have a question and I'm not sure if this is the place to ask it, but it's regarding the SE tax deduction to AGI. With my material (Roger) they simply have been saying and testing that the SE tax deduction is calculated by taking Sch C income after expenses multiplied by 7.65% (15.3%/2), however, in real life, SE tax is calculated by taking Sch C income after expenses and multiplying that by 92.65%, then multiplying that number by 7.65% to get the deduction. My question is, on REG, for SE tax questions, do they include that 92.65% calculation or do you just multiply the Sch C by 7.65%?

I am pretty confident I did okay with my SIMS but holy crap, for some reason, the MCQ's in the first testlet made me pause… ALOT. Honestly, thinking about them, they are basic entity questions but when you spend most of your time trying to nail down all harder concepts like calculating basis, gains/losses, AMT, simple dopey intro questions threw me off. I will be so disappointed if I failed because of those! GAH! I was so happy when I got a math related question. lol

@OTK1995 let's hope we did well in sims and that the MCQ's this quarter were on average more difficult so we can get more points for the ones we got correct. I was completely blown away by what I saw compared to what my focus was geared towards when studying (like you said, basis, gains/losses)

So those saying not many calculations for MCQ, do you mean it was more conceptual for your test?

@Tiderfl see @jewfromaxxi's post. That sums it up pretty well. Less calculation MCQ's than you would assume, and more questions about BS rules and stuff that I didn't pay hardly any attention to. So yeah, I guess more conceptual but not sure if that's even the right way to describe it.

As you can see, I am still frustrated about that exam. It was a complete crock of $h!t if ya ask me

Hope you all passed!! Did AICPA sample test help? And besides property transactions, ethics, B-Law, and entities taxation, is there any other topics you'd recommend to hammer down?

@Greg definitely know everything tax related. MCQ's were all over the place, so make sure to practice all topics for MCQ's. Yeah the AICPA sample test is good for getting a feel for the actual exam
