I have REG on May 30th. Currently, I’m feeling confident with taxes at the moment (been getting 80%’s on quizzes, and yes I know that isn’t too indicative of the way the test is scored) and also confident with doing the sims. However I’ve been getting in the 55-60% range on quizzes for ethics and BLaw. My question to people who have taken REG is this, how important is BLaw on this test? Should I focus more on mastering Tax or getting better at BLaw?

@jrw1990 it's important. I think it makes up around 1/4 of the exam.

I would like to know this as well. I sit for REG soon, and was wondering how important is B-law?

It's important… It's roughly 25% of the exam. Your business law questions more than likely won't be super detailed though. If you have a general understanding of each topic, you'll likely be fine on most questions. I would focus more on knowing the tax concepts personally, especially since it seems like you're more likely to see tax sims vs blaw sims. Good luck 🙂

I keep getting “stronger” and “comparable” on Ethics and Blaw respectively, and keep failing this exam. This tells me that Ethics/Blaw topics are easy to understand, and are my strong points. Tax is what's killing me. SIMs are my downfall.

I would practice Ethics/Blaw until you are scoring 70-80% and you should be fine. It looks like Tax is your strong point, which is a strong indication that you will do well, but mastering Ethics/Blaw will get you a pass for sure! Good luck…

Thanks for all the responses. I like what @more_coffee said about the BLaw questions not being super detailed because I feel like the ones I have gotten wrong are the more difficult more detailed ones. The ones that are based on the BLaw basics I do feel comfortable with. With that being said and there being less than five days until I take the test. I feel like I need to getting into more the details of tax and the basics of BLaw, and hope that it pays off.

There are so many tiny details in tax, on the released questions it seems that the tax questions are aimed at the big tax sections (real estate) rather than tiny details like some kid tax exemption and mixed with 9 different credits (wiley questions) etc…can any exam takers confirm? I take the exam 5/28 and am wondering if I should keep reinforcing the big picture or spend the time being meticulous on smaller areas.

When I took REG in Nov, the majority of the questions i had was related to Taxes & Property Transactions. I had very little BLaw. The SIMs I has was pretty much the same mostly Tax and Property related problems. It was a good thing I focused on those topics because it helped a lot. Getting a Blaw SIM, I have rarely seen anybody actually get one. I believe if anyone did, it would probably be related to SEC 1933 & 1934 Act.
