REG Frustrations!!!

I have REG scheduled for October 20 and technically started studying on September 2. I have gone through all of the Becker lecture videos and am now making my way through the questions. I am so frustrated because I feel like I can’t learn all of these rules and I am moving incredibly slowly through the Becker MCQ’s (finishing R4). It is especially frustrating because I was knocking out 200+ MCQ’s/day when I was studying for AUD. I can barely get through 50-100/day for REG. I haven’t even hit the profession responsibilities & business law portions.

I hate tax! I just feel like REG has way more rules to memorize rather than concepts when compared to FAR. Sorry for the rant…just frustrating. Bleh 🙁

Don't worry, we've all been there! Also, don't feel bad that the MCQ's are taking longer – just make sure you try to understand the questions and not to get through them for the sake of getting through them. I found it funny you say that bc I'm in an opposite situation now that I'm studying for Audit and I can do many more questions than I did for REG on any given day.

I only gave myself 5 weeks to study for REG and just barely failed with a 74. Planning on a retake later in October after i take Audit.

You're still in good shape – keep at it!

    FAR - 81
    REG - 74, 87
    AUD - 88
    BEC - 88

    Finally.

REG is a beast, no doubt about it! I took it in May and got a 72 and I've been studying it off and on since then. I'm concentrating on the tax stuff. Last time I took it my Corp, S-Corp and Partnership tax skills weren't good enough, I walked out knowing that. I'm hitting those sections hard. I made myself a 1 page cheat sheet to study with. I find that along with the MCQ eventually some of it sticks. I agree though… All of these rules. AWFUL! Then there is the time factor. 3 hours is a tight squeeze for this exam. I really like having the 1 page cheat sheet for key topics. For Audit I got down to 1 page front and back of everything I felt like I really needed to know and didn't already. It was nice to have that going in to the exam. I reviewed it in the car before going in. I plan to try to do that again for REG. Good luck!!

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

Thanks guys. The 1 page cheat sheets are a good idea. I guess I just have to remember to keep chugging along!

I know what you mean…one weekend, while studying for AUD, I got through 900 MCQ. For REG, I'm lucky if I can get through 150. They don't even feel as long as FAR's questions, just…annoyingly hard.

    BEC - 72, 82! ✓
    FAR - 80! ✓
    AUD - 70, 92! ✓
    REG - 74, 78! ✓

Don't over stress with REG! I think you should focus on tax chapters the other ones are just theory and concepts. I didn't had any long calculation or over hard question in actual exam. Beckers are harder than actual.

I am studying for FAR but there are soo many chapters and little things that I will not remember in actual exam,.. that is scary. You have 2 goods scores there for Aud and Fare.. relax and study as much as u can

Just study as much as you need to, if you aren't ready to take the exam, no need to go rush into it. Reg is my last section and I am just getting started. As long as I don't fail it 3 times in a row I should be done with this thing. I'm just going to take it as late as possible(end of NOV) and pass this thing first try. Good Luck!

your not alone!!! I hate REG too. At least with FAR the answer choice made sense. With REG I feel like there just random numbers that the IRS came up with lol
