Reg is terrible

Wow I just took REG earlier this morning and it was terrible. Testlet difficulty went from medium-easy-easy IMO bc the questions were short and more focused on no mathematical questions. I ended up staying up from 12-8am to study wiley test bank before my exam at 8:30. I was really shocked by the questions. Many of the questions had no relevance to what I saw on the exam.

Also the sims were terrible. I literally just filled out what I thought was correct with no confidence. I imagine the curve on REG is pretty juicy (I took BEC which i imagine is curved much less). I really don’t understand how they expect me to study for this exam. I study MC from the wiley book and wiley testbank and there literally might have been 2-3 similar questions on the exam. Also the authoritative literature was tough to go through. I never really practiced with it so I spent prolly 20-30 minutes looking at it wasting a lot of time. Lets hope the curve is insane on REG. I imagine a lot of people go into this exam less prepared than me so maybe I have a chance.

I used becker for REG. At that point I didn't have WTB and ninja notes to supplement. It was tough, and I work in tax. Some of it is common sense for me because I've been working with it for several years. But overall the language of it tells me you really have to understand the tax lingos. Not sure how you study, but cramming from 12AM to 8AM right before exam is not a way that I would recommend. You can't cram on these exams, worked in college, but these are completely different, you have to thoroughly understand the concept and take time to memorize them. The questions on these from what I recall do not even come close to becker when it comes to similarity, if you are lucky you will get 2 or 3 questions that is somewhat similar. But the point of it is to test do you really understand the concept, if you do you can decipher the questions and typically come up with a logical answer.

I will tell you that you definitely need proper rest before the exam so your mind can think clearly, and make sure you memorize the tax lingos, formulas for calculation on different type of tax, 2 big one would be 1040 and 1120 because it's the most common forms filed, and make sure you thoroughly understand the law portion of it. Hope you did well though, good luck!

@jkpoker1- that sounds crazy man. I thought you at least need 6-7 hours of sleep the night before the exam. Dont even do any questions but just read and glance through your notes.

I agree with Ginger…I think it's very important to get at least 8 hours of sleep the night before and I really only read the Becker book the entire day before. By that point, I had done a million MCQs and needed to have confidence that I knew it.

My sims for reg were also very difficult. I felt I did well on the MCQs and did poorly on the sims…Hopefully you passed and never have to take that test every again!!!

My suggestion is get enough sleep, especially the night before. I always try and get enough sleep even while studying – I feel like it helps absorb the info…

Good luck and keep us posted!
