REG – Is Wiley worth it?

So I’ve been studying for the REG exam the past 4-5 with Becker only and am taking it this weekend. I’ve done all the homeworks, reviewed the material this week and looked over my notes, have done well on the progress quizzes and will be doing the Practice/Mock Exams today and/or tomorrow. I also just got the Ninja updated notes (a nice relaxing PDF read of only about 138 pages…), but I’m wondering if the Wiley Test Bank is worth it. My fear is that a lot of these homework questions I’ve been reviewing with Becker are now very familiar because I’ve seen them so many times, I feel like I already know the answer halfway through reading the question. Are the Wiley questions much different? Would it be worth buying it to crank our some new MCQ for 2 days before the exam, or are Becker’s questions similar enough to the CPA exam ? Any feedback would be appreciated.

My opinion – I am really surprised to see a lot of people on here supplementing BECKER with WILEY TB! Becker review is supposed to prepare you to pass the exam! You shouldn't have to need additional materials…..unless you are trying to get a score above 90……

I am using Roger which comes with Wiley TB (about 1,200 MCQs per part) and I felt confident enough to take each part. I did not feel entirely confident I passed each part AFTER I took each exam, but looks like it's been working! 🙂

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

@ ScottBM07 I am in the EXACT same dilemma as you! I just finished up R8 today and will begin my review tomorrow. I take my exam next Saturday and will definitely have enough time to go through all of the MCQ one more time, re-read my notes, etc. But I also feel that I've almost memorized some of the MCQ and am really worried that I'm gonna get some tax questions that weren't really covered in MCQ but are at least mentioned in the lecture. You mentioned you got the Ninja notes…did you find those to be helpful?

@The Don Great job on your score! Do you feel that getting the Wiley was worth it? Also, did you find there to be a lot of “exception items” where the examiners really test your detailed understanding of the various tax laws? If answering this violates the terms of the exam, no worries. What's your overall feel for the exam? I know it was in the previous testing window, so anything can change.

@tough_kitty I hear you about Becker and supposed to prepare you for the exam, they apparently have the highest pass rate. That is also my hesitation on getting the Wiley questions….Becker is supposed to prepare me, so I should be okay. But I'm so worried about all the various tax laws, I really feel like I need more practice!

@OCDisME yes the ninja notes were pretty helpful. I had taken notes throughout the different parts of Becker and ended up having almost a whole notebook's worth.. the Ninja notes were pretty much the same thing but it included some of the 2013 changes to be aware of. It was a nice addition, but it's probably not going to be a difference maker in passing or failing (but then again that's just my opinion.)

I tried the WileyTestBank free 24-hour trial just to try and cram as many MCQ as possible before the exam. There were some questions I had no idea on just because they weren't even mentioned in the Becker course. At first I was worried but after reading a lot of the forums here I think that if you put in enough time with Becker after reviewing the notes and constantly doing MCQ, then you should be fine. The likelihood of having questions you've never seen before is minimal and probably limited in quantity. I've started to really read some of the questions I recognize very slowly because then I can ask myself, Ok you know the answer but WHY is that the answer. Just trying to understand every issue inside and out. Altogether you want to do and use as many resources as possible to feel more confident come test time, but ultimately I think I could study for 6 months using every resource available and still not feel confident. My advice is to work with Becker, understand your notes, and try to stay sane.

    I ONLY used WTB.

The results speak for themselves and I saved $3,000 on Becker. If anything's the waste of money, it's the $3,000 snooze-fest, not the $200 test bank.

@ ScottBM07 Thanks so much for your input. I like your thought process on understanding WHY the answer is what it is. That's definitely a key to all of this chaos! 🙂 I think once I get through the majority of the tax questions in Becker, I'm going to do the 24 hour trial with Wiley and see what I think. Good luck to you on your exam!

@ wizards8507 Good to know. Luckily the cost of Becker is covered for me, so I'd only be spending money on the Wiley questions, and just a mere $85 for a 4 month period isn't too bad. I'm gonna do the 24 hour trial and see what I think before spending the money.

I only have 8 days of review before my exam and I definitely want to get through all of Becker again.
