REG Or BEC?

    I took Audit as my first exam in January and passed, now I’m trying to decide between taking REG or BEC next. Due to scheduling difficulties I plan to take my next exam the week of May 12th. I have already finished the lectures and the homework for BEC 1 in Becker, but now I’m wondering if it would be best to sit for REG instead of BEC since my exam date is about 11 weeks away. I don’t want to underestimate the time needed to study for either of these exams, since I’m not a believer that one section is easier than the next. I personally know people who have struggled on the so-called “easy” sections.

    My question is should I just continue on with BEC and use this extra time to over-prepare for the exam, or should I try to knock out REG, and put BEC to the side?

    I personally would have picked REG over BEC to sit first. I think REG and FAR can be more challenging than AUD and BEC but everyone has a different opinion.

    If you like Tax then maybe REG isn't going to be tough for you.

    @Kenada

    That's what I am thinking as well, but do you think I have enough time if I were to switch now? I'm not that far into BEC.

    oh ya 11 weeks for REG is more than enough time. I did REG in 8 weeks and I was working full time.

    The Key for reg is practice MCQ's as much as you can= do repeat them as by the time you are done doing them once you will have forgotten so you start again and see how much you retained and which ones you are still getting wrong.

    Why you go them wrong and what is the right answer etc.

    Also I did my own notes, little charts and lots of Mnemonics to remember stuff. But first understand the concepts then memorize the mnemonics.

    Don't leave any topic for granted. This quarter we got questions on some really minor topics and one turned into a SIM. Make sure you know and understand everything well enough.

    Lastly the SIMs are a B%&I^&(. So no harm practicing the ones in your review but don't assume that will be what you will get in the actual exam. Just use them as a practice tool to see were you able to apply your knowledge to the SIM. If not you know were your pitfalls are.

    Thanks for the tips 🙂 I forgot to caveat that I have no experience with US Tax or Law, will that impact the amount of time I need to take to study?

    I didn't have US Law tax exp either and so no it won't take you longer. What it will mean is you just need to dig deeper when you are studying.

    Write down the follow of the Tax return e.g 1040 over and over again until you see where what goes. Thats the real main thing knowing what deduction or credit or exemption goes where.

    For Law – i think even those that have done some Law classes have found that legal mambo jambo a headache. So you will not be alone. In law I found by doing the MCqs and seeing what made the answer A instead of B helped me overcome Law as being a horrid topic.
