REG Or BEC?

During tax season, I had been attempting to study at least one reg chapter a night. I am using cpa excel. I have gotten about half way through the material and was hoping to take it at the end of May. My problem is I am nit sure if I will feel prepared enough by then, especially with the law topics. I was considering moving onto BEC for the next month since I know I could knock it out with a lot of concentration. Is this a good idea? Thoughts? I would them take reg in July. Basically, reversing when I planned on taking each. I feel like I am having a hard time focusing when studying for reg. I get easily bored and distracted. I never had that problem with far or audit. I’m not sure if it was due to working so much and then trying to focus on something tedious outside of work? I guess I’m not sure what would be best to do at this point. Either way I think I need to redo the first half of reg I’ve studied. Are the changes for 2014 in reg that great?

    FAR - 78
    AUD - 66, 91
    REG - August 28, 2014
    BEC - 74, 79

I just took BEC in Feb. and studying for REG now. I'd say if you're just now starting to study, don't take REG. I started studying mid-March, and I'm feeling the pressure of taking it on my scheduled date in mid-May. I'm using CPAExcel, too (trying to get through at least 6-7 lessons/week, working full-time, just finished busy season).

It took me much less time to prepare for BEC – maybe 6 or 7 weeks. REG feels like a beast in comparison…so much information. I think this one is going to end up taking about 10 weeks to prep for.

(Keep in mind, I've been out of school 4 years, so none of this info. is fresh)

    AUD: 84 - Oct. 2013
    BEC: 83 - Feb. 2014
    REG: 91 - May, 2014
    FAR: 68, 96 - Oct. 2014...DONE

Yeah REG is a beast. I feel like it is worse than FAR for me, in terms of trying to focus and actually learn the material. I was able to do audit in 3 weeks the second time around by really concentrating on the material and with the ninja 10 point combo. I am hoping to be able to do the same with Bec and jold off on finishing reg until I can have a clear mknd and fresh start

I am studying for BEC and I feel like BEC is a walk in the park compared to REG. REG was a monster!!! I passed it at my first try, but it is nothing to be proud of in terms of the misery it put me through. And by the way, I am a tax accountant and I love taxes… yet I found REG to be harder than FAR!

However, here is the way I prefer to study. I prefer to go through flames, earthquakes and storms in the beginning so when I feel very tired and worn out I have just a walk in the park ahead of me!

    Good luck!

I took BEC first and am now studying for REG… oh man, I don't think I'm going to pass it, but still cramming like crazy to try to pass it. If not, I'll have to retake it. Just so much little crap to remember. I'd say, you've already studied the Business Law portion, why not just finish it off. But you know yourself and your studying methods best. Good luck conquering this beast.

    To uptowngirl549,

If I was you, I would go with REG. I was convinced also BEC was in the pocket as I have BS and MBA's from schools among the highest ranked. Unfortunately, this was before I looked into the material 3 weeks before the exam… There were so many surprises with details about SOX and IT, among others, that it made me realize that it might not be as easy. I'll wait until Monday 5/5 for my result, even though I believe I passed. However, it's still a 50/50, as the simulation part (40%) is unpredictable. REG on the other hand is much more detail and if you have the tax part close in mind, the law is more verbiage that is just a question of understand and memorize. Even though there's a lot of details, there's just so many questions that could be asked and by concentration on the Q's it shouldn't be to difficult, or so I believe. Good Luck!

Based on studying material, I am having a harder time with Reg than Far….and I do mostly tax work. My main problem is keeping details straight not used on a day to day basis. I do better on the sims than the mc. Mc I tend to just glaze over as I am reading them. Anyways, I decided to take BEC first. I've gotten through about a quarter of the material since yesterday so I think I. Should be in good shape. I'm able to focus so much better on it now. I feel like I'm actually retaining information, rather than reading it and blanking out after.
