REG SIMS spanked me like a 1st grader in the principals office

Does anyone truly know how these things are scored….other than speculation that is. Are they weighted by difficulty like the MCQs? For something as I high-stakes as the CPA exam you think there would be some formula for determining your score.

I understand there are pre-test questions (which there has to be a better way of researching FUTURE test questions at the expense of CURRENT candidates- I certainly hate wasting my time answering questions that aren’t graded when I could use that time looking in AL for help on the others), but seriously I shouldn’t have to spend this much time and money studying for an exam and feeling hopeless cause the exam appears to be arbitrarily scored.

Granted this is my first exam, so maybe I am sensitive, but I would hope my thoughts aren’t alone. I felt like I did pretty well on MCQs (which I thought were hard as hell, but fair), but the SIMS felt impossible and far too wordy (not to mention I had two on the same topic – which wasn’t my strongest area – how that’s fair…I don’t know). Saying I got 50% total correct on the SIMS would be reaching…….

I know I’ll get the “just wait and see….you might be surprised with your score”, but the uncertainty of not knowing how its scored (and which questions are pre-test) is frustrating. I’ve read pretty much everything AICPA has out there on the scoring, so I’m at a loss…..

    Thoughts most definitely welcome……
