REG Simulations :( - Page 2

I just took REG this past weekend. I used Becker to study for about 150-200 hours. I was pretty confident in all of the multiple choice packets; I only had to make educated guesses on a few for each packet. However, the sims were absolutely terrible for me. I didn’t even know where to begin. I know I got the research question correct and filled something in for all of the simulations with, again, educated guesses and left with 30 minutes left. I had a general basis for my guesses but, at the end of the day, had no full confidence in any of my sim answers.

I’ve taken FAR and BEC and passed with an 85 and 88, respectively, so I know I have good study habits. Does anyone know if there is still hope for me to pass? Waiting for that score is going to be terrible.

I felt defeated after the sims. Totally guessed on 2 of them and made an 89

    Wow, this is encouraging!

I'm still waiting for my results, but so glad to see people reporting passing this section.

I thought the sim were tough because they seemed to be more general accounting issues than anything I had studied. I passed by the skin of my teeth, but I know I got one completely wrong messing up FMV vs Cost on an issue. I don't know you, but if you studied equally for the last two and have a reasonable degree of intelligence you will most likely be fine.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 93
    REG - 76

I took the exam on 30th May, I was not prepared 100% for the exam, I have not touched the following at all, tax credit, Securities1933 & 1934 “never skip it”, R 8 in becker book. In addition, I forgeot 80% of what I studied in the law section such us contract, UCC sales, surety, secured trans, commercial paper, agency, bankruptcy. Also, a day before my exam I did a fast review over Individual, corporate,, partnership, estate & trust, gift taxation – professional responsibiltiies was my strongest area becoz of aud section, they are same in concept, didn't memorize just read over them 3 times and did MCQs.

One more thing I wana say that I did touch MCQs in R7, R6 except commercial paper which I did only once, S corp and exempt organization. I also did not touch any of sims in becker software. Overall i did 40% of MCQs in Becker software and 0% of sims.

I entred the exam, first testlet was ok medium, i got a medium testlet 2, testlet 3 i dont know whether it was medium or difficult. Sims – tab 1 solve by guess, tab 2 reserach kept it empty, tab 3 enetred 0 value in all cells, tab 4 i did but after exam i noticed that i did many mistakes, tab 5 & 6 guess.

I thought my score will be between 50 to 55 – but I ended up with 70

My recommendation for REG section, concenterate on Taxation and Professional Responsibilities, get basic understanding of LAW section, sims depends on your tax knowledge if you ve prepared well, you will get marks otherwise, you will struggle, i ve a feeling that REG are always curved up.

Trev, I felt the same EXACT way when I walked out of REG back in February. I actually wasn't even very confident in my multiple choice sections, let alone Sims. As soon as I walked out of the exam, I started looking for the next exam date and mentally prepared myself for a failing grade.

To my surprise, I ended up passing.

I just got out of the test room and felt so awful about my sims. I spent almost 15min on the research but probably didn't get the right one. There was also a sim about C corp's annualization method for installment tax due, i've never seen this kinda sim before, including wiley&becker. God i felt so frustrated and plan to start preparing reg again tomorrow. Does anyone know where should I even start to look up those info that never pops up in becker?…

I felt terrible about the sims walking out of the test, but after flipping through my review book I think I actually did pretty well on them. Although I couldn't find the research section (lol) but at least guessed the paragraph letter correctly.

I thought the MCQs were very tough, however. General consensus on here seems to be that they weren't too bad, so I'm guessing I didn't do very well on them.

    @Egenin89

When you said you did really well on the MC what type of testlets did you get? Medium/Hard/Hard?

I just took Reg today and not feeling so great. I know my MC testlets were Medium/Hard/Medium. I thought the SIMS were extremely hard. I'm pretty sure I got at least 1 SIM correct and 2 SIMS partially correct while the rest completely wrong. I just don't want to study for this exam all over again…! Even if I had to retake this exam I wouldn't know where to begin. I used WileyTestBank and thought the practice simulations were no help. I thought there was no point studying for the sims with WTB. I thought the WTB was straight to the point and I knew what the questions were asking but when I did the SIMS for the actual test I felt like I just got smacked in the face…!

Looking back on it now, the only way you can prepare for the sims any differently is being able to navigate the IRC quickly in order to look up how to do certain problems within the SIMS. If i have to retake REG I'll practice using IRC while doing Becker's sims in order to better prepare me for using it (IRC) during exam day…

    hope I passed

I had the exact feeling when I took Reg on Wednesday. Since you posted this 11 months ago, I'm curious if you passed the exam (sorry if I shouldn't ask this question, I'm too worried about the exam and can't focus on anything).

Just took Regulation today. Honestly, the sims were fairly difficult. However, they dealt with material covered at least in part by Becker, so I wouldn't say they were completely “out of left field.” I also got 2 research questions, which I'm going to assume that one was a pretest and didn't count.

One more thing: I also did not feel like my multiple choice testlets became significantly more challenging with each subsequent testlet, which concerned me at first. However, this statement from the AICPA explains why that might have occurred:

“Multiple-choice testlets vary in difficulty—there are two levels that are labeled ―medium‖ and ―difficult. Within the testlets, items often vary substantially in their difficulty levels, but across testlets, those labeled ―difficul contain harder questions on average than testlets labeled ―medium Every candidate receives a medium testlet first. Succeeding testlets can be either medium or difficult, depending on a candidate’s performance. The scoring procedures take the difficulty of all questions into account so that candidates are scored fairly regardless of the difficulty of the testlets they take.”

    Hoping I passed!

    REG - 4/1/2015 - 82, 100-110 hours of studying over 6 weeks (while taking 12 hours)
    AUD - 5/11/2015 - 91, 70-80 hours of studying over 4 weeks (while taking 12 hours)
BEC - 5/30/2015 - 82, 60-70 hours of studying over 2 weeks (post graduation, not in school)
    FAR - 7/23/2014 - 87, 160 hours of studying over 5 weeks
    *Only Becker study materials used*

I took it today and I thought the testlets got harder. I hope that is a good thing and not that I just didn't know it As for the SIMS… Ugggggh. I only had one research question and that is the only one I felt confident about. I found it in about 2 minutes. The rest were very iffy. Sometimes, I was unsure exactly what they were asking.

I'm depressed about it. Regardless, I am on to studying for FAR as there is nothing I can do about Reg now.

    B Passed
    A Passed

@lostinamerica I too Reg yesterday and felt the same. I was REALLY upset because the simulations seriously lacked clarify. I new how to solve them but I also felt they were iffy. I couldn't tell what they were asking and it was almost like they didn't provide enough information. Glad someone else is in the same boat….

When do you find out if you passed?

    REG - 87
    AUD - 72, 76
    FAR - 78
    BEC - 73, 82

    Done forever!!!!
