Hi Everyone – I'm taking Reg on 8/30 and using Roger Phillips and Wiley for review. I'm so nervous about Reg so I'm leaving a lot of study time (and also taking a break from taking two tests in Q2). Let's do this!

I have completed FAR and will tackle REG in July 2014. I am a bit down but I will continue studying!

Just touching base to see how everyone's doing on their MC adventure, I'm probably averaging 50% right now with 70% being my highest on sets of 30 using Ninja. My trending score sits snug at a 32% though Im just choosing the 4 tax categories. I'm also just at 19% in the first phase.

    AUD - 75 ā˜ŗ
    FAR - 65, 71, 70, 77 ā˜ŗ
    BEC - 80 ā˜ŗ
    REG - 73, 66, 79 ā˜ŗ 2/28/15

    Done!

I just started MCQ tonight–Tackling Individual tax and all I can say is WOW! My first question required knowledge of deductions for IRA contributions with phaseout limits and salary ranges. WTF?! I had no idea I was going to have to remember minute detail like that for this exam.

Do you guys tend to do MCQ's by topic exclusively? I have mostly been doing all sections mixed in my practice sessions. This is my first exam and I could use some guidance as to how to best study with MCQ's. I'm using Wiley.

    REG - 86
    FAR - 74,
    BEC - 72,
    AUD -73,

I go through a section of notes, then go through all the MCQ that pertains to that section and take additional notes if necessary. I think repetition of question after question on one topic helps retention of that topic better than jumping around when you are in the initial phase of learning. Each time I move onto a new section I will take a 30 question multitopic quiz on all the prior sections I have studied just to keep things sort of fresh in my mind. During my review I will start taking multitopic quizzes over and over. A week or so before the exam I will focus entirely on problem areas and then two days before the exam I will start going back through my notes section by section and taking a quiz for each section. At this point I should be scoring in the 80s on each topic. If not I will focus solely on the topic or two that is still giving me trouble until the exam.

Hi everyone! I am taking REG July 3rd… so I am pretty deep into studying. I have a question, I feel like this doesn't make any sense to me, but is this what Becker is telling me (Business Law portion):

If a minor enters into a contract, for example to purchase a computer, and they decide they don't want it, they can demand their money back but they do not have the return the item, simply because they are a minor? (Term is “disaffirm the contract”)

That doesn't make any sense to me, does this only apply to sales between individuals and not if a minor purchases something at a store? I just keep getting the MCQs wrong because logically, if the minor demands their money back, only days after turning 18, one would think they legally have to return the product, but the MCQs are telling me that the minor is not legally required to return the computer because the adult in the contract is still bound by the contract.

Am I missing something?! This is probably one MCQ on the exam, but it's really bothering me!

Thank you to anyone who can explain!

    FAR - 84.
    AUD - X,X,76.
    REG - X,X,75.
    BEC - X,X,74*, 81 AND IM DONE!!!!!!

*if i dont pass, i lose FAR.

Study materials: Becker videos/MCQ/Books, NINJA Blitz helped to finally pass AUD and REG.

First exam was in May 2013, seems like so long ago - FINALLY DONE!!!

@mamabear I would not waste brain power trying to memorize all formulas/phase-outs. According to my lecturer you'll probably get 1 question that detailed and it's just not worth it.

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! šŸ˜€

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently šŸ™‚

    From Becker's R1-22:

For certain TPs and certain bonds, the amortization of a bond premium is an offset (reduction) to the interest received and a reduction to the bondā€™s basis, and the amortization of a bond discount is an addition to the interest received and an addition to the bondā€™s basis.

In simpler English, can someone reword this phrase for me please? Thank you.

It is taking me forever to get through individual tax. There are so many rules/levels/amounts/percentages/ranges. Any suggestions on keeping all of this straight? I know we don't need to memorize everything, but it seems like every question I get in the Ninja MCQ requires memorization of some number. I'm averaging 30% right now because I'm having trouble with memorizing the numbers. Concepts–Ok, Numbers–Not okay. There are just too many.
