    Hi All,

I have two attempts at REG before my BEC credit expires. I am attempting to squeeze REG in and take the exam August 30th. I’ve been studying about 2 weeks now. I have a few days to review everything once I go through all the material but that’s it. I study 3-4 hours a day. I am watching the lectures, reading every module and making flashcards. I am not doing MCQs until I study each module since I won’t have much time to do any additional questions. Any advice on how to use my time better?

I would suggest doing MORE mcqs. If you can afford it, buy the Ninjq MCQ for REG and pump out questions until your eyes bleed, and then after consulting an optometrist, make your eyes bleed again. Make sure to take it SLOW and take notes while doing the MCQs, whether you get the question right or wrong. Sometimes I'll get a question right and the explanation will say why a particular answer was wrong. If I didn't know that piece of information, it goes on my notes!

    REG - 88 - 8 Weeks (Becker, Ninja Audio/Flashcards, Wiley TB)
    FAR - 87 - 10 Weeks (Becker, Ninja Audio)
AUD - 98 - 6 Weeks (Becker, Ninja Audio, Ninja MCQ)
    BEC - 87 - 2 Weeks (Becker & Ninja Audio)

    For REG –

What I did different was to practice each chapter – mcq's on each topic – I wouldn't wait to do mcq's –

Buy Ninja or Wiley if you're able to – great source!

    AUD - Done
    REG - Done
    BEC - Done
    FAR - August 2015

Something I do to optimize study time is use my resources as I'm doing MCQs. I don't ever guess– if I don't know, I look it up. That way, I'm always focused on learning the material and not quiz scores, which can be demoralizing and distracting.

I also think it's very important to practice the sims. I think it helps you process the concepts in a deeper way. I probably do less MCQs than a lot of people do (1,001 for REG), but I do all the sims.

Another technique is that I printed out the main tax forms and took them with me everywhere so I could review them if I had a spare moment somewhere, like waiting for Zumba to start, as this was helpful for visualizing where the different adjustments fall.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

You need to skip the lectures and get right to the MCQ's. I agree with Kimboroni for the most part. I feel like if you know the material, the Sims fall into place. I may have done 5 sims before I took REG and it worked out fine because I was fairly comfortable with the content. Everyone is different though, you know what works for you. I will say though…MCQ's are the consensus as far as I can tell. Do them, and do more of them….and then do MORE!

@brittpone123 I am studying REG as well…a few weeks in..I plan on taking it on the 28th.I am currently on chapter six.

What I do is read the chapter then listen the lecture then attempt the questions. I encourage you to do the MC and learn the tricks.I have not seen the same questions on any of the CPA exams I've taken so I read the chapters which will allow me to apply what I've learn t when I see a question on exam day. This is what helped me pass BEC but when I changed my approach for FAR to focusing on the MC first like I was instructed I failed.

    Stay focused!!! We got this!!!

Hi Kimboroni or anyone who have done the same,

Could u please tell us a little more about this approach. Meaning like what forms did you printed out and how did u went about it?

“Another technique is that I printed out the main tax forms and took them with me everywhere so I could review them”

I am into my 2nd week of studying for REG and started with Individual Tax…….so much stuff my head is swirling.

    Many thanks!

You have to go straight to the Test Bank MCQ's. Do 2,000 questions. Do a batch of questions in the night. Write down the questions you get wrong. The next morning, read those notes. That following night, take the same batch of questions over. Any questions that you missed, highlight those questions in the notes you already took. Those are definitely problem areas.

Do that everyday for 30-45 days, 2-3 hours per night. Listen to Ninja Audio whenever you are in the car or at the gym, doing laundry, at the grocery store etc.

Do you all think its worth buying the updated Wiley (CPAexcel) book. I am taking REG at the end of October and I have the 2013 book because I bought them all together last year when i started this dreaded process.

I have the updated Test Bank for Reg.

    Thanks.

    BEC: 81
    AUD: 83

@tncincy, you're in good company. Been through it twice now. Got 67 and 71. My plan is to pound out 2000 MCQs in two weeks and take the test on 10/1 or thereabouts.

MCQs and some MORE rote memorization especially around Business Law. Too many useless things to cram in…..dumb useless stuff like SAGWEGCTI

I have the Spring 2014 edition of Wiley Reg. I believe it have the updated information as well as ninja notes and audio. I guess I better get myself together if I am going to get those 2000 questions done.

@joshperry607 If you have the CPA Excel program, you can access the book online, which is updated automatically if you don't mind reading on your computer/ipad..

@ijustwant76 I'm in the same boat as you pretty much, third attempt and testing around Oct 2. Are you using Ninja MCQs?

    FAR 75 (8/21/13)
    AUD 72 (10/29/13) 74 (2/12/14) 84! (04/01/14)
    BEC 75 (11/27/13)
    REG 72 (05/29/14) 74 (07/10/14) 86 and DONE! (10/02/14)

    @yassy,

That's why I bought the book, because my eyes can't read on the computer for lengths of time. I've tried diming the lights…just don't work. So get the paper if you want to avoid constant computer.

@yassy, yes, I bought Ninja MCQs since my Becker was from 2011. I had used paper-based WTB the 1st time around and did not do any MCQs for 2nd round. I just took the stupid thing in July so I THINK the info is still fresh.
