REG Sucked.

I took REG yesterday and thought it was ridiculous. I went in feeling pretty darn prepared. I used Becker to study and knew at least something about everything. There were at least 10 questions that I completely guessed (wrong) on. I double checked my answers by googling it because the 10 topics were not even mentioned in my Becker book. There were several questions that didn’t even relate to REG. Ridiculous. I could easily say that I was only 100% confident on 1/2 the questions in my first testlet. I am now 100% confident that I didn’t do well on my first testlet because my 2nd testlet was so easy I knew all but 2 questions and I think the two I didn’t know will not be graded because they were on absurd topics. 3rd Testlet was also easy. Is it possible that I did so bad on the 1st testlet that they just kept me at easy for the whole exam even though I think I did well on the 2nd testlet? Sims were not too bad. I was hoping they grade my 1st one because I couldn’t find the research on the 2nd sim and also was shaky on another question in the 2nd sim, but I think they will grade my 2nd. Overall, it sucked. I am now praying for a 75 because I do not feel well about this one.

I took REG in August and felt like there was no way I was going to pass. I had to guess on a lot of MCQs and the simulations were ridiculous. I used Yaeger and thought I was well prepared but was sure I was going to have to retake it. I wasn't able to really tell if testlets were getting harder because they all seemed very hard to me (including the first one). I ended up passing with a 77 (stronger on MCQs and written communication and weaker on simulations). So I wouldn't give up hope just yet.

I took it today and felt the same as you, WisconsinCPA2be. I felt like there were a lot of questions that were not at all covered by what I studied in Becker. And I read the Becker book 2x, did all of the multiple choice questions at least 1x (mostly 2x) and listened to the Wiley audio CDs. Grrrrr! I left feeling like there as no way I could have passed, so I am encouraged by that NorCal!

    BEC - 5/24 - 83
    FAR - 7/17 - 88
    AUD - 8/22 - 89
    REG - 10/15 - 84 - DONE!

I felt the same way about REG and got an 86. I tell everyone not to worry too much about how they feel immediately after REG. For that one in particular, just hold your breath until the score comes in. Everyone thinks they did terrible on that one compared to the others!

    (IL) / BEC - 81 (2/20/10) / AUD - 94 (4/19/10) / REG - 86 (5/24/10) / FAR 96 (10/18/10) / DONE

I just came back from REG….it was a monster!

Everything but the first testlet (which I finished in less than 15 minutes) was hard!

The sims were VERY complex and on topics you would never think they would test.

I finished with 2 minutes left, I was going to click “done” and leave, but I re-checked a tab in my last sim and found out a trivial calculation error (like I had to calculate 20% of an amount and I just divided it by 4 instead of by 5). Thank god I caught that, so if I pass with a 75 I know what it was.

This was by far the hardest test for me, but really by a long distance. I could seriously have failed this one, but I guess we'll see. A long 6-week wait is in front of me…..

    FAR - 7/26/10 - 95
    AUD - 8/10/10 - 88
    BEC - 8/31/10 - 88
    REG - 10/15/10 - 95

Just curious to see if anyone has passed REG while having their MC testlets not appear to change difficulty. Thought I did fairly decent on my first testlet, so I was pleased to see that the first question of my second testlet was about a paragraph long. However, as the second testlet went on the questions got less wordy and “simpler”, although I did a good deal of guessing/50-50 guessing. I began thinking that maybe I didn't do so hot on the first testlet. I honeslty can't even remember my third testlet, but it might have been slightly harder. Things were a blur at that point.

I think I did decent on the written communications–at least knew how to give a coherent answer, but nothing too dazzling. And there was really only 1 simulation tab I was completely confident on….the rest were pretty horrible. Also know for sure I got at least 1 research problem right as well. I did budget my time to at least fill in all the blanks, even if it meant punching in some zeros.

Any thoughts? REG scores seem so wierd to me because it seems like most people get surprised by their score……I'm hoping I do as well, but compared to my last 3 exams, I felt the worst about this one. If you've had a similar experience, let me know what you think. I guess I'm just a little concerned that my testlets did not get obviously harder. Thanks!

Honestly, when I took BEC and REG, I did not notice a difference in testlets. I never thought one was harder than another. I recently took FAR and I am concerned because all 3 MCQ testlets were very easy.. I'm nervous about that one!

On my REG, my first three testlets seemed very much the same in difficulty to me, or maybe they did get more difficult, but I just knew the material well enough that they didn't seem more difficult. My first sim though..pretty darn tough – on a topic most people struggle with – but it was doable because I had reviewed that area pretty well. My last sim, hang it up sister – I didn't even have a clue what the WC portion was asking – still don't, so I left it blank. The rest of that sim was on a topic Becker had significantly downplayed, so I glazed over it as I was pressed for time in studying – probably got 0 points off my last simulation. I walked out thinking I'd be very lucky to get a 75, but I ended up with an 85. You just never know until the scores come out.

Good luck to everyone. No one can predict their scores.

I swore I failed REG walking out the door and got a 97.

I could tell a difference in difficulty on my REG though. However, on FAR I could not tell a difference in difficulty between testlets and still ended up with a 94, so I had to have had hard testlets for #2 & #3.

Like others have said, there isn't any good way to tell how you did given the way they weigh each question and their scoring process. Try not to think too much about it. Start working on your next section if you have one or relax and try to unwind if it was your last.

@CPA Someday: I hope you didn't notice any change in difficulty in BEC since it is not adaptive like the other three sections.

I agree. REG sucked. I'm just hoping that I'm in the big group of people pretty certain they failed and end up passing. ***sigh*** by far the most painful exam out of all of them!

    FAR-91 (7/29)
    AUD-99 (8/23)
    BEC-90 (10/1)
    REG-99 (11/3)

I agree Florida. I have no idea what to think about REG, especially since everything was such a blur that I feel like I can't remember but 2-3 questions from the entire exam. Maybe my brain is psychologically supressing the test.

Even though I took FAR a while back and it was brutal, I walked out feeling decent knowing that the testlets got harder. I felt great about the MC and horrible for the SIMS on FAR, so I was hoping that the scale would balance the right way (which it did barely).

For REG, I couldn't necessarily tell that the questions got harder. I'm trying to decide if it was that bad of a test or if I just felt bad about it simply because I just took AUD and BEC, both of which I felt confident coming out of. Here's to hoping for a “surprise” score.

Florida, I think you can take great confidence in knowing that you probably did decent based on your last 2 test scores. If you put in the same amount of effort for REG, I gotta believe you will pass no problem.
