Today is my last day to study for REG. How would you recommend going over the tax portion in Becker R1-R5 to really cement the important ideas?

I'm taking it for the first time myself in about 12 days but my intent is to focus on the flow of the tax forms, not just memorizing the acronyms. I think, much like focusing on the JE in FAR, this will help big time with the sims. So for individual for example….I'm going to study in order of the 1040 flow. For Corps, same thing. S corps? Focus on what is separately stated and what is not. After all of that I have a list of critical elements that I think are going to be key just based upon my MCQ study experience. All of the different property classifications/treatments, basis calcs for Scorps and Partnerships, the ATI calc for corps (for the 10% of charity). I'm not focusing ad much on the minor phase outs but I am focusing on the big ones and all of the carryback/carryforwards.

    Good luck guys!

Having just taken it in July, I'd say there's some solid advice up there!

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

My strategy for REG was to know the Tax stuff inside and out, and understand the basics of the law.

For R1-5 I took a lot of progress tests. I would start with 50 Q from R1 and R2, and then make a flash card for any rule that I would have needed to know to answer the question correctly. Then I would do a test that was 25 from R1 and R2, 25 from R3 (and so on). Each test would have 25 questions from chapters I already tested, 25 from the new chapter. Each time I missed a question or got a question right for the wrong reason I would add a flash card to the pile.

It helps me to study the flash cards with a buddy, and to make them more detailed than mere definitions. This forced me to explain the entire concept out loud, and in order to that you have to really understand what you're saying.

For AMT, I only knew how to recognize the basic components that were part of it. That PANIC TIMME mnemonic was so useless to me lol.

    Good luck on REG, guys!

    REG: ***92*** (5/14/14)
    FAR: ***83*** (8/17/14)
    BEC: ***89*** (10/3/14)
    AUD: ***86*** (2/22/15)
