I failed Regulation (my last one) and Audit credit expired. I need your advice in study strategies. Should I:

    1) re-read the book

    2)watch the lectures

    3) only read ninja notes and blitz

    and then MCQ?

I used Beckers and Ninja MCQ. I should continue using Beckers or I should buy Wiley?

    I really appreciate your help!

When I failed REG, I started from scratch and re-watched all the Becker videos, re-did all the Becker MCQs, SIMS, and also signed up for Ninja MCQs and audio. After going through all the material I crammed further the last 2 weeks before the exam date. Jeff has a ‘survival guide' for when you fail an exam, which really helped me put a plan together for whenever I failed an exam.

I'm partially in agreement with @emparkhurst – when I failed a section, I went back at is as if I had not taken it before. I did re-read the book and do all the MQCs. Really try to understand the concepts and the reasoning behind the questions rather than memorizing (I did that all too often). I'm not sure if watching the videos is an efficient way to study; however, if you decide to watch the videos, make sure you'll fully paying attention and don't hesitate to take notes and stop the videos as they go. It's not helpful to simply highlight and not understand what is going on (another thing I did wrong). I added NINJA MQCs with Becker to my final FAR take. I think if you put in the time and effort, you'll come out fine with the materials you have. Don't forget to reward yourself and keep the end result in mind. Find what works for you and your schedule and then pound it out! Good luck! And don't worry about missing REG – they are all hard tests. If someone next to you gets a 90 and you fail, that doesn't mean he or she is any smarter than you!

I feel like there's a lot of minutia to memorize in REG compared to the other tests. Does anyone agree with that?

I don't know about that. I got questions on my FAR exam yesterday that no one could really know unless they memorized the entire Becker book. And I'm not sure they were even in there. I'm referring to conceptual questions.

I think REG has the most minute detail of any of the tests. For my retake I didn't watch lectures, but I read all of the tax portion of my book, took notes, and quizzed a lot in the Ninja MCQ. For the blaw portion I am quizzing and only reading the sections of the book on things that I continually get wrong like contract law. Don't treat it like a retake. Treat it like a first time test, with the alterations of cutting out anything that you don't think helps you efficiently learn the material. For me, that was lectures and reading blaw. Flashcards and quizzing are great for blaw. Tax requires a little more understanding for me so I needed the bigger picture I gained from reading the book.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!
