Rejection Letters

    Hey guys,

So, hiring season is here, and I am looking for my first entry level audit job. I’ve interviewed with one big 4 and a handful of midsizes. All in all, I’ve been actively interviewing and networking with around 10 firms. Anyway, I received 2 rejections in the last few days. Both of these companies, I also had contacts within, at a high level. Therefore, I assumed these were possibly my 2 highest chances of an offer. Now that they are off the table, I am starting to panic, and think that wow, maybe I will get no offers and wind up jobless. Anyone have similar or relatable experiences? I’m looking for knowledge, not just a pat on the back.

Same here. I have 2 rejected and have no respond from the rest. Keep trying.

I wouldn't worry. I've heard somewhere before that generally if you even get an interview from 1 in 10 jobs you apply for, you are doing good.

Just keep networking, personalizing your CV and resume for the roles you apply for, and looking for roles that you can REALLY see yourself doing and you'll be fine.

Are you finishing up your undergraduate or graduate degree? My advice to friends is to be persistent with your job hunt, keep in contact with each firm you can, keep your name fresh within the office and learn about any upcoming networking events or job openings. Additionally, if you want a career in public accounting and don't get hired out of undergrad your chances are not over. I worked throughout undergrad and went full-time when I graduated in a finance position then went back to school to obtain my masters and will be going to BIG4 next Fall. Try to get an internship / job with a firm and if that doesn't work look for a job where you will gain “relevant” accounting experience (banks, state gov't, etc.) anything to get some experience. No matter where you go to work you will gain real-world interpersonal and leadership skills while seeing how you perform in a team environment, which is what most firms are interested in. Consider working towards your masters / pursuing your CPA while in a less demanding job. The important part is to not give up on your networking. Keep attending luncheons, campus recruiting events, job fairs, whatever it takes.

I'm an MS student, and will be graduated with 150 credits this winter. I think that makes me an oddball, but I don't think that's what hurts me, or else I wouldn't even make it through the door.

Highly competitive field and there are simply not enough seats for every one. Don't give up, but some people have to be left behind.

Well, bigfourexpert, hopefully it's not me that gets left behind. I am completely paranoid about striking out.

last recruiting season I was looking for an intership didn't make it past the campus interviews. This year I'm looking for full time audit. Interviewed with 3 firms- one called me back for an office visit, one just rejected me today, the 3rd is still pending. But they said I should know within 2 weeks-which will be Monday if they haven't reached out by now then it's looking like a no as well :/ Hopefully I get the one I'm having an office visit with or else I will continue to be jobless lol. Your not the only one out there keep looking!

Does getting rejected by the cute receptionist after trying to ask her out count?
