Renew or NTS

I am stuck….I have to decide if I should renew my tscpa membership ($300) or go ahead add a few more bucks and get a nts for aud and bec. I need to get this test behind me, and I have faced running out of money or credit card space to pay for the next sections of the test before. I am scheduled to take Reg this window and Far the next. In my mind I have plenty of time, but if I get the nts, I feel like I will go on and study. Just not into wasting money, but thought I’d ask the group. What have you had to forsake for the nts or study materials. Is money an issue?

If you let the membership lapse do you have to pay more then $300 to get it again? Take the CPA exam regardless, get it over with.

tncincy I am very surprised at you!!! If you're not into wasting money, justify the tscpa membership to me? If its on your resume will that help “not a cpa, but have a tscpa membership!”

You knew the answer before you posted 😉

How about a 3rd option: don't put anything on the credit card today, keep the balance free for getting an NTS in the future but hold off on actually getting it till you're closer to when you'll be taking it. Skip the TSCPA membership for now (a catalog and CPE is not worth $300 lol), don't renew till you're finished with the exams and make that be one of your reward rituals, that when you get your final passing grade you get to fill out an application/renewal for TSCPA. For now, leave that free balance on your credit card, and let it float free for a month or two or three or whatever till you've taken REG and are into studying for FAR and are ready to move on to the next NTS. You'll save some interest and won't have an NTS aging while you already have 2 other exams lined up.

I did kinda know the answer, but when I received that renewal letter I felt so obligated to renew. I didn't plan to get the next nts until I had taken reg and 1/2 way finished studying for far. I'm not really using the tscpa right now anyway, but the thoughts were there. My reasoning was renew and by the time you need a new nts you'll have the money. Where does the pressure of obligation come from?

Be a tightwad accountant…I'll never know how they get so many members, anyway, with accountants as the subscribers! I haven't joined my state society cause I'm too far away to participate in events (all the events are in the big cities) and don't want to pay for a quarterly catalog and a bit of CPE. 😛

Does TSCPA stand for Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants?

I think you over-paid on your membership, and you should get a refund.

According to the application, the cost for members that have their CPA license is $285 per year.

The cost for members that are still working on their CPA license is only $35 per year.

I'm in the TN society….not going to renew, I'll wait…..the pressure. It was not $300 when I first join, maybe they think I passed already.

    Sorry, my mistake.
I live in Texas, and we use the same acronym.

Your membership is very pricey. =(
