Hey guys. I currently work at a mid-sized firm and enrolled in the Becker Review course about a year ago. I'm contemplating leaving the firm, but repaying becker cost to my firm is holding me back. Has anyone ever repaid the becker costs and if so was it for the full price?

    Thanks!

I can't imagine the firms pay anywhere close to full price for Becker considering they're responsible for thousands enrolling each year. If they made you repay the full, undiscounted cost they would be making money off of it…I doubt it.

Well, this is in relation to another discussion we had on a post in regards to so called “company benefits” in that you actually end up paying for them through lower forms of compensation. In addition, things like the education benefits keep you trapped with a company for 3-5 years or they will take back their education benefits and make you pay for them.

The company might be receiving a discounted price from Becker, but that doesn't mean they have to pass that down to you should they have to clawback the education monies. You should expect to pay full price to plan for the worse potential outcome.

From my experience, unless your boss specified that if you leave within a certain time period that you must repay, I don't think they will ask you to repay and if they do it cannot exceed what they paid for it. I my work requires me to repay only if I leave prior to finishing the course. BUT ONLY THE DISCOUNTED PORTION. My company paid 1600 for Becker.

Every firm will have a different discount based on size, students enrolled, etc… If one company pays a discounted rate of $1,500 for Becker, another one might pay $3,000. It just all depends, and you likely won't know the discounted rate unless you ask your employer and they are honest in their reply.

From my experience, Becker will only talk to authorized persons from your Firm. Thus, you won't be able to call Becker up and tell them you work for XYZ CPA Firm and want to know what the discounted price might be.

Question for anyone who can help. I work at a small local firm and part of their offer was to pay for Becker. I've been here 8 months. My salary and Becker offer was verbal over the phone and I never signed any contract or anything of the sort that I agree to stay with the firm for a minimum time. I just received and accepted an offer from a Big 4. Is there anyway my current firm can force me to repay the Becker cost? If anyone has had a similar experience can you enlighten me? Thank you guys!

@jreyes1126 – as the followed brushed upon, look back at your employement agreement and to see if there's anything in writing. If not, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I work in a Top ten firm and the only thing that was in writing was in regards to the bonus repayment if leaving within 1 year of payout.
