    Hi,

So I’m wanting to send in my Application of Intent to apply to sit for CPA exam in Texas. However, I am worried that my ethics course may not be accepted (there’s so much emphasis on it in TX). I took the below courses. Do you think they’ll be accepted? I applied in GA 2 years ago with no problems. I do know that the below courses were more “business law”. Please help. Do I really have to go back to school for 1 class??

    Clark Atlanta University

CBUS 330: Legal, Social, and Ethical Aspects of Business I. 3 credits

Introduction to business law. This course surveys the nature, types, and functions of laws regulating businesses. Students are introduced to the role of the court systems in business and the concepts of contract and agency. Students are also introduced to the social and ethical aspects of business. Prerequisites: ECO 251 and ECO 252, CBUS 207 and CBUS 208.

CBUS 331: Legal, Social, and Ethical Aspects of Business II. 3 credits

Continuation of CBUS 330. Examine partnerships, corporations, commercial paper, secured transaction sales, consumer credit, bankruptcy, and modern legislation regulating business. Increased emphasis on social and ethical responsibilities of management. Prerequisite: CBUS 330.

I would think they would. If they don't Austin Community College has an online class but you would have to complete it before taking the exam.

    Reg - Passed 82 Nov 2012 - Becker
    Aud - Passed 86 May 2013 - Becker
    BEC - Passed 88 Aug 2013 - Becker
    FAR - Passed 88 Nov 2013 - Becker

The TSBPA is super picky about what they'll take from out of state. If it's not on their pre-approved list of ethics courses they will need a copy of the syllabus, a copy of the class schedule, and have you contact your professor to fill out an “ethics matrix” form that breaks down the structure of the class. A certain percentage has to cover certain areas of ethics. I got my degree in California and they ended up not taking my ethics course.

    REG - 86
    FAR - 80
    BEC - 79
    AUD - 92...I'm done woohoo!

@Shel_178 I saw that business matrix and I know that the calss did not cover AICPA, SEC, etc. material. It really was a business law class. I have a feeling that they're going to reject it. This sucks because it pushes all my plans back regarding taking the exam! My course included the below. Back to the drawing board and I know it's probably too late to try and enroll for this semester…… 🙁

    A. Identify the sources of law and describe their effects.

    B. Describe the court system and court procedure.

    C. Describe the nature and classes of contracts.

    D. Identify the elements needed to create a contract.

    E. Read, interpret contracts, and cases.

    F. Discuss the effect of the following upon contracts:

    1) f r aud

    2) dures s

    3) undue influence

    4) contractual capacity

    5) consideration

    G. Identify and discuss illegal agreements.

    H. Describe the effects of the statute of frauds upon contracts.

    I. Identify personal property and bailments.

I'm sorry to hear your class doesn't qualify and that you have to go through registering/paying for and taking an ethics class…that stinks! I know how you feel though. I had to take an online ethics class and the book was even the same as the one in the class I'd already taken : / As san4596 stated…it's all common sense pretty much, but I guess it's just one more hoop to have to jump through…best of luck on your CPA journey!
