    Hi everybody,

I’m at a crossroads because I’m not sure if I should reschedule my FAR exam. This is my first exam and I’m halfway through chapter 3. I have my exam scheduled for May 17th, but I’m finishing up grad school and have 3 exams. I’ll be done with exams on the 8th, so I would have 8 days to hardcore study for FAR. I am getting nervous that it’s not enough time, so I was thinking about rescheduling it till the 22nd. For those with experience, what would you recommend? I am using becker and ninja notes. Any advice would be truly helpful! Thanks

That's a lot of exams and a lot of stress to go through. Dunno about you, but stress affects my performance. You cannot avoid your finals, but you can reschedule FAR. I'd say, reschedule.

    FAR
    AUD 02/10/14 passed
    BEC
    REG

Yea I think you should reschedule. Probably not the best idea to take it if you feel you are not adequately prepared.

I don't know how many FAR chapters Becker has, but I'm guessing you're probably only 1/5th or 1/4th of your way through the material. I think rescheduling sounds in order. Maybe to even later than the 22nd, since you probably have a lot left to cover still.

I'm studying for FAR right now, and to give you an idea of my timing (I work full time), I started studying in mid-March (either the 9th or the 16th), and my test is on 5/9. My materials have 14 chapters for FAR, and I'm doing my last 2 chapters this week. That gives me 2 weeks to review, which Jeff recommends.

You should probably map out how much material there is left and figure out a reasonable timeline to cover it all, with about 2 weeks at the end to review.

This advice is from someone who doesn't prep all that much for school exams. These CPA exams are a completely different animal that take a lot more prep than we're used to. Often, when people fail their first section, it's simply because they underestimated it.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

    I agree with @ Kimboroni

Reschedule. It may be tempting to try and anyway and see if you get lucky right? People don't get lucky on these exams.

Also, you won't be able to truly gauge your effort in relation to your score. If you take the exam when you have covered everything and feel truly “ready” . . . and then you fall short, then you will know how much effort a retake will be. If you fail after a half-assed attempt, you won't truly know what a kind of effort a pass requires.

My opinion (feel free to jump in folks) is that FAR takes a minimum of 6 weeks, 20+ hours per week of intense study. Although I believe a safer estimate is 8 weeks unless you happen to already have a really good grasp of the concepts from experience, unusually awesome professors, etc.
