    Hi,

Need some advice on my resume. I recently changed positions in October but had to resign shortly after due to a change in job description that occurred once I began and was not something that I could do. When I am in interviews and explain the situation, it seems to come off light-hearted and interviewers tend to chuckle. However, I am not sure I should be selling myself using that experience.

A link to my resume is below. My question is, should I leave off the latest financial analyst position while searching for a new job? When I was applying to jobs in September, I went on two interviews and immediately received an offer for a 40% raise. Now I’ve been on eight and haven’t heard anything back. Just not sure if it is the holiday season or that I am selling myself poorly.

I think you'd better find a different way to explain the short time at that job. Don't ever tell an interviewer that you left because of a change in job description. Regardless of the back story the interviewer is thinking “this person will only agree to do exactly what is in their job description and refuses to be flexible and is blaming the employer.” and one job interview isn't enough time to convince them otherwise.

Instead think of a way to use it to explain why you would be a good fit for the job you are applying to. “That job didn't work out because my qualifications were not the right match. I realize you are looking for something more directly aligned with my education and experience. For example you need Quickbooks experience and I've been using that for 6 years. You also need someone who is comfortable with pivot tables and that is where I do my best work”

Truth is they don't care why your last job didn't work out but need to know if you'll only last a month there. It's your job to assure them that this will be different.

Its been another month, I've only had 4 interviews, and still no position. One was with Robert Half last week, but I've never had any success in the past with them and don't foresee any forthcoming. I'm thinking about chucking the latest job off the resume completely, but then that would leave a gap between October and February where I haven't been employed. I don't know what to do at this point, anyone have any additional suggestions?

I cannot see your resume, but how long were you at the last job? And did you have another job before then?

My current manager worked at his last job for 3 months. When I was interviewing I asked him why he had chosen to come and work at the healthcare company. I had looked him up on LinkedIn and saw he had only been at his last job 3 months but I didn't directly ask why he left. He said that he really liked what our current company had to offer. And then he said that the last job he had been on was short lived because the job was just not the right fit for him. So maybe you can say something like that.
