So I’m starting my retakes now and just wanted to see how you all usually approach restudying. Do you re-watch the lectures? Or just read and do the homework problems again? Thanks!

I start from scratch and watch all the lectures again, redo all the MCQ, Sims, notes, flashcards, etc. I always try to do more than the first time and really focus on weaker areas.

I'm on a timeline with audit of 2 full weeks of studying. I'm not sure if the lectures would be beneficial to me or not. I made a 71 the first go around, so I understood most of the concepts, I just need to brush up on a few things. A big part was simulations.

You shouldn't look at it as you just need 4 more points. You have to go into studying like you need 75 points. You could probably skip the lectures but I would re-read everything, do all the practice questions and add a few things in that you didn't the first time, like flash cards and NINJA notes.

I definitely plan on rereading everything and taking notes which I did not do the first time. I am also going to work every question and do all of the simulations again.

I would try and restart studying like you originally did. I got an 74 on BEC and I approached it as I just need a little more. And I failed. Not the recommended approach.

@kswannabecpa thanks for that! I absolutely HAVE to pass everything this next go around.

I've read many other posts where people said their retake was much harder than the first test. Anyone know why that is? Or have any experience with that?

I'm going to guess that they perceived it as harder due to not studying enough (“I only need 1 more point” thinking, as above) and/or just studying their weak areas from the first one and then getting a totally different test.

I'm worried that you haven't given yourself enough time for your retake. Can you put off until October?

I'm going to see how much I get done and how I feel after this first week of hard core studying, and I may decide to push it back before the 5 day period. I'm trying to go at this one pretending I have absolutely no knowledge and redoing everything besides the lectures probably. Idt I can sit through 24 hours worth of Tim Gearty again…He'll wear you down quick. lol

My AUD retake was ridiculously hard in comparison to my first try. I was 100% positive I failed. I was almost in tears by the second testlet. Luckily I passed, but only because I studied as hard as I did and Ninja notes/audio/flashcards were life savers for my retake. I didn't rewatch lectures, but I did read the Kaplan book from cover to cover, rewrote the Ninja Notes, listened to the audio every chance I got, and did all the flashcards.

8 weeks, but I work full time and have 3 kids so I could only get in 10-15 hours of studying per week for most of that time with 20-25 hours the last week or two.

Take this for what it's worth but I took Aud last October. Failed it with a 74 and hated everything CPA-related. I didn't study, didn't watch any videos, didn't do any flashcards. Nothing. Until January came around and my retake was coming up. A couple weeks before the retake, I starting doing some random MC questions throughout the chapters and read Ninja Notes. I was much more relaxed for this exam because I was having some serious apathy. I came out of that exam with an 84. Literally a 10 point increase. I'm not exactly the poster child for great work ethic but I thought that the second exam was a little easier just from reviewing the concepts. There were some questions that I could literally remember reading the basis behind them in the Ninja Notes in the car before the exam.

I think it honestly depends on what exam you get so just relax and don't stress out. You're already a good portion on your way to passing so just stay positive and keep the early stuff fresh.

That makes me really want to gun it out these next two weeks and knock it out of the park. I'm just still unsure of myself. It would be nice to feel like I could take a minor break if I wait until next testing window.
