Roger vs Wiley vs Gleim

A little background, I finished my accounting degree around ten years ago and have worked in public accounting (tax and audit) or the private industry as an accountant since graduating. I also just completed my MBA to meet the 150 hour requirement.

Will the review courses from Roger CPA, Wiley, and Gleim all provide sufficient review materials to provide me with a refresher on accounting concepts that I have not seen since graduating with my accounting degree ten years ago? I am having a little trouble deciding between the courses. Gleim seems to be the best value, Roger CPA seems to have the most engaging lectures, and Wiley seems to be the most time effective. I plan to supplement with Ninja Notes and/or Ninja Audio.

I’ve read through several discussion posts. Does anyone have updated recommendations on a core CPA course to begin my CPA exam adventure? With a pregnant wife, time and money are definitely considerations, but I am willing to put the time and effort in to pass on the first time to ensure I obtain my CPA before the little one is born.

    Thanks in advance!

Go get a Roger review course and Ninja MCQ. They are all you need to pass the exam.

I use Gleim as my core review course and it works perfectly for my learning style. The lectures and audio aren’t the greatest but the text is all inclusive and the MCQs will ensure that you won’t see anything you’ve never seen before on test day. If you learn better through lectures I think Roger is best for you but if you can read the text, take notes, and learn the information, Gleim is the way to go since it is more affordable.

I bought Wiley Platinum course and it offers a lot of contents but I got 74 first time each for both FAR & AUD. Wiley has some good instructors but some are awfully boring that I tuned out within minutes.

For FAR, I restudied everything using Wiley and got 81 the 2nd time. Overall, it took almost 10 months to pass FAR alone. AUD was hard and I didn't feel confident the weekend going into a Tuesday re-take. That was when I found Roger on Youtube and I was hooked. Roger is unique in his delivery that's entertaining and effective. Got an 80 in AUD. I can confess that I learned so much from the free videos during that last weekend and Roger was probably responsible for me passing AUD.

Most importantly, Roger taught me that remembering everything is not enough. You need to know how to PASS the exam. Wiley offers more contents but Roger goes through the steps for each lesson and his lectures are tailored to the key concepts on the section. For me, he gave me confidence. I bought Roger REG and took the exam in 10 weeks and got an 83 first try!

Notice that the scores were not high. Some who used other review courses have scores in the 90's but I would take four 75's any day and I think Roger does that. There are entertainment values in his lectures that you can watch it again and again and not be bored. I sped up the videos to 1.75x usual speed during crunch time or if I need to go back and review a section.

Using Roger now for BEC – exam on August 14. I'm confident I will pass. Remember that you are not looking to ACE the exam but to earn 75 points in any ways.
