Scared of Not Passing Again

    Hi,

I am sitting here trying to get the motivation to start studying for BEC (with Becker), but I can’t get myself to really concentrate. I have taken AUD twice, failed both times, and REG, failed. Now I am scared to even start studying for BEC because I’m afraid of putting all that hard work in and not pass another exam. I work over 40 hours a week and I try to study everyday after work. But it doesn’t seem to be enough. And when I am studying I’m so distracted it’s ridiculous. How can I put more effort in and have the disappointment of not passing another exam.

Does anyone else feel this way or am I being lazy? Any suggestions?

    Dieing to pass these exams!

I think others might echo this as well but my advice is stick to one exam and crush it. Hopping around isn't going to help much IMO.

As cheesy as it sounds… picture your name or physically write it out with “CPA” behind it. It really puts things into perspective. This forum is a great platform to feed and gain motivation to complete this thing. Have faith in yourself. You couldn't have gotten this far unless you were capable to do this.

    To tashai,

I am on the same boat as you do, and I am planning to start BEC also. BEC is boring and is very easy to be distracted.

First of all, I don't want to read the book. I was never a book reader, so I will kindly skip the book and jump to the question.

Here is how I am planning to nail down BEC:

    1. Buy a testbank / book and do all the questions first. Doesn't matter if you know the material. The goal is to eliminate all the questions that you know already (Even if you guess it right, just eliminate it.)

    2. Now, I have eliminate about 50% of the questions. Start doing the questions one by one and flip Wiki / Dictionary. Practice until it's perfect. Of cause, if you don't understand, flip the book.

    3. Then after I figure out all the MC and successfully eliminate about 90% of the questions (with the remaining 10% being too difficult to understand). I start doing practice exam to improve my score. (Doesn't matter if you know the question already, just keep doing it until you know the answer while you are daydreaming).

If you are easily distracted, why don't you break up your study time into pieces? I usually don't count my study time in hours, I count the time in terms of questions. Do 10 question at a time and give yourself a break.

    For example: 10 MCQ -> Bathroom -> 10 MCQ -> Go get water -> 10 MCQ -> Go get food -> 10 MCQ.

Do about 100 question each day and you should be fine..

What kind of distraction? I bought a noise-canceling phone to minimize noise distraction. Taking a short nap also help refresh your brain. I also take short breaks (watching funny videos in youtube or reading posts here) in between topics or sets of MCQs. Some people can study for hours straight while some can only take short sessions. Knowing when you're being effective or not, is also knowing when you should keep going or take a break. Just make sure you stay on schedule.

I'm on the Becker in class schedule. I think after this schedule is done, I will focus on one exam to pass it first, then move on to the next one.

    Thanks!

I completely feel your pain!! I failed FAR miserly of a 37 and AUD with a 40! I seriously thought I knocked the AUD exam out of the ballpark cause I did fairly well on the Becker study plan

Most certainly. You start questioning your knowledge, ability and why you went into this profession. Truly, I believe with perseverance you can overcome anything . It's human nature to fail these kind of exams I've realized that. But, my motivation speech of the week is instead of starting something, how about finish something. Best of luck!!
