Scheduling exam after NTS deadline

I have a question about NTS.

I already picked 2 sections on my first NTS. I passed one just now but I realized I need more time to prepare for the next one which means I’ll have to schedule after the NTS last permitted date.

What do I do? Can I reapply to this section even tho it’s already on NTS? Or should I let it lapse and apply again real quick?

My NTS for this section is valid till June 12th (which is not a testable month anyway, so lates I can take is May 30). So if I want to sit for my section in early July, what should I do?

    REG - 91 on 01/21/15
    FAR - 87 on 05/30/15
    BEC - 88 on 01/04/16
    AUD - 96 on 10/16/15

    DONE

“…Can I reapply to this section even tho it's already on NTS?…”

No you cannot.. They will not let you register for another one until this one you have is GONE!

Instead of let it lapse.. a better strategy is to take it (what have you got to lose?) and you can always take it again in July/August window

REG 78 12/2013 YEAGER CPA REVIEW and Yaeger REG Cram Course
FARE 77 05/2014 YEAGER CPA REVIEW and Yaeger FARE Cram Course

BEC 79 6/4/2015 YEAGER CPA REVIEW and Yaegar BEC Cram. Yaegar BEC audio 74 03/02/2015

    DONE and DONE!!

honestly you have time! I would study and sit for it May 30. But then again, I dont like to lose money and thats what will happen if you just let it expire…

I have to agree with Allegra, you should sit May 30th. I'm not sure your circumstances or which section you're NTS is for but 3 months is more than enough time for any section. And in all reality studying for that long isn't advisable as you'll inevitably continue to forget stuff. Also with only 18 months to pass you may not meet that deadline if you are giving each section that much time…

    I'd reconsider waiting.

I totally agree, this is FAR I'm preparing for right now and as you all know it's really hard. My job is getting more and more demanding. I got 91 for REG because I studied non stop from mid September to Jan 21, that's like 5 months. So if I study the same fro FAR and pass then I can quickly prepare for BEC and AUD. They are hopefully easier, correct me if I'm wrong.

Other than losing money are there any other problems associated with letting it lapse? Or how is it done?

I can certainly go in May, fail and redo in July I guess…

    REG - 91 on 01/21/15
    FAR - 87 on 05/30/15
    BEC - 88 on 01/04/16
    AUD - 96 on 10/16/15

    DONE

You can request your State Board Office for extension of your NTS ONCE in your lifetime. Simply write or email, and then call them. If you have already scheduled it at Prometric online, SBO will only ask you to cancel it so they can reset your NTS.

You should realize by this time, (as I did) that it is important to only apply for NTS one part at a time.

Take it in May and pass it. End of May is 3 months away, which is more than enough time even with a demanding job. Honestly studying 10 hours a week for 20 weeks is too long, you'll start to forget things. The problem with taking so long between sections is there is no guarantee of a pass, even though it is much more likely if you're properly prepared. If you wait until July and everything doesn't go exactly as planned you're 1/3 of the way to losing a section and still have 3 to pass.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

thank you all. Thank you so much Amor D. this is very helpful.

I'll think it over the weekend.

Amor D, if I get my NTS extended and change my mind and decided to go in May, I can still reschedule, right?

    REG - 91 on 01/21/15

    BEC - 88 on 01/04/16

Okay, I just checked my reset NTS from last year. It's showing the “Earliest Date You Can Take the Test”, which had the same date from the original NTS and the “Latest Date” was showing the extended time granted by the State Board.

So you're good to go. However, pay attention to what the majority of people here are saying to your advantage.

Since your metered time has already struck from your first passed test, do not skip a testing period without sitting at least a minimum of one section per quarter. I learned it the hard way. Yes life happens when you expect it the least, health issues or death in the family, or job pressures, blah blah blah. Before I knew it, I got only two testing windows left. And I had no recourse but to sit in two sections just for the sake of sitting resulting to chaotic and humiliating scores.

Mashukzzz – i dont want to sound like a dictator but just take the test in May. You can do it! If you dont pass, it will still serve you as a real test experience. Dont think it over and take it. Youll succed!

thank you for words of encouragement but I'm just so tired and work is crazy that it effected my studying process. I go in a slower than a turtle speed and I will feel better if I know I can extend NTS and have this cushion available. I can always reevaluate closer to May with my NTS extended.

and def very good point in the future to only pick one exam for one NTS at a time.

AUD has the lowest passing rate (seriously, look into it) and BEC is way more demanding than you think. No CPA section is easy. You DONT need a 91, you need a 75. No one cares about your score. I think you're heading down a dangerous path by waiting this long. You should never skip a testing window.
