Score Challenged

I’ve recently made a 74 on my FAR exam and I’ve decided to pay the money to challenge my score. According to my diagnostics I scored the weakest on the simulation section. Has anyone ever challenged their score or know of anyone who did? I was wondering if anyone ever succeeded.

Nobody has ever succeeded, don't waste your money. According to the AICPA you have something like a .001% chance of ever having a score changed.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

I got a 74 on REG and thought about challenging it but I did the research and what I found was no one has ever won. I could be wrong, but the thing that made me decide not to challenge is they don't review your challenge until the next test window so you could have paid to retake the test and pass before they even review your 74. I actually did retake REG and passed the next time.

I'm sorry to hear about your 74. Per AICPA website: the likelihood of a score change following score review is exceedingly small, or less than 1 percent of all requested score reviews since the inception of the computer based test.

If you decide to get it reviewed, good luck. You'll need it.

Thanks. I read the same thing regarding the success rate. It makes no sense why they would even bother letting people challenge and pay the large fee, since nobody ever succeeds… Seems like a scam to me. lol…

I also got a 74 on one of my exams and for a day or two I considered challenging. After looking into it, I decided it's not worth it at all.

As amk mentioned, it takes 8 weeks to get the results of your challenge. So the cost of the challenge + 2 month wait + virtually nonexistent chance your score would change = not even close to worth it.

I agree. I also read the stats about it. However, even against better judgment, I decided to take my chances. It's been 3 weeks already. In the meantime, I am preparing for my REG exam and will take it early July. So, I really didn't lose any time because I moved on to REG. I probably lost only my money. 🙁 I will let everyone know how it turns out though.

So do you get that back if you are successful? Not as much as I had imagined it would be, but with that success rate I would have to pass.

I also scored 74 on REG, and it was my last section before the other part expired. I actually challenged it, After a few weeks they wouldn't change my score. It's not worth it. I recommend to spend money for retaking the test.

It's prob the AICPA's way of trolling. A lot of questions on the exam are about judgement and if you can be trusted to use it correctly. If a bunch of accountants are sayong your chances are less than 1, regardless of price, common sense would say don't do it. I feel like even trying is solidifying they made the right choice to not pass you.

I don't agree with the comment about the judgement of accountants being correct because there are many of them?

That's like saying the judgment of lawyers is correct because there are many, or politicians, plumbers, doctors, scientists, etc. When everyone is right it is time to get out of the market, country, city, etc.

But the problem with challenging the CPA exam is that they don't show you the questions and your answers, so you can see for yourself what you missed, etc. And even if they did, it would not mean much because the score is curved, and every question is valued in relation to how everyone else answers. It would be a mess to try to explain it.
