As this is my first time taking any of the CPA exams (writing FAR on friday) I am just curious if anyone has an idea exactly what type of raw score would generally be considered a pass. I know you need a 75 but that is with a curve. Thanks

It doesn't work that way due to adaptive testing.
If you do well in testlet one...your next testlet is worth more points but will be more difficult.

I don't know how they get their scores or even how the scores released by NASBA look. However, here is what I see when I log into the California Board of Accountancy site. It shows the perfmance in each individual category, and then the total score. All of the performance numbers are lower than the total, which is odd to me. Anyways, maybe you or someone else can make sense of the scoring system. I sure can't.

Trying to make sense out of exam scores is like trying to make sense out of governmental accounting. It is easier on the brain to just not do it. For a profession that loves numbers we sure have a convoluted way of scoring tests.

I have heard that 5 questions of each testlet (total of 15) on BEC are pre-test questions and do not count. If you take 90*25%= 22.5...so you can miss 22 questions and still pass...but I don't think that is how it is graded..some questions are worth more than others depending on how difficult the question is.
