    Hi There,

For all of you who conquered REG (or are in the processing of doing so), what is the secret sauce to pass this thing? Reg is likely next on my agenda so would like to know if there are any differences in terms of study approach for REG vs. FAR & AUD.

I will probably use Ninja 10pt combo as a stand alone course (especially since the book is now available). Any experiences w this approach? I used Roger + Ninja MCQs for FAR and Wiley CPA + Ninja MCQs for AUD.

    Thanks!!

I used Yaeger/Wiley my first two tries with REG. The Ninja 10 point combo (without the book) on my 3rd try was my secret sauce!

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

    Done!!

The key for me was continuously writing my notes, over and over and over again, probably a good 4 times. I also did the MCQs 3-4 as well. I used Becker.

Another key for me was understanding the logic behind things and using IRS publications to research more if I didn't understand something. I think it's also important to look at the SIMs while studying, but not to focus too much on whether or not they prepare you for the test, I think many people get lost this way. Worry more about MCQs and you'll be fine. Finally, I would definitely not skip over R8, these are “freebie” points, as well as the rest of BLAW, read them over twice or so, and you should be good.

    AUD: DONE
    FAR: DONE
    BEC: DONE
    REG: DONE

IM GOING TO BE A CPA!!!!!

@NJ congratulations on your final fourth pass!

I did a lot better on my retake for REG, huge 14 points jump, but I still got short of three points, bummer! If I paid attention to your coaching about casualty losses during our study group chat, I would have not tripped up with one of my SIMs. I didn't realize it was my weak spot. I am not sure of what basis to use in computing for the correct casualty losses. Do you have notes to share with us about casualty loss?

    Thanks.

I finally passed REG on my 4th try. I always seem to run out of time studying so I've neglected SIMs. I also think I've been remiss in reading the stupid directions on each SIM. One of the dumb things I realized when I finally practiced SIMs before my test was that you're required to enter in a ZERO for any answers that are blank. If you dont enter ZERO, it's wrong. It's so dumb…..but I think this little thing may have deterred my previous efforts with this test. Oh well, it's over now and I get to move on.

Know Basis!! That was my key to passing. I have a strong individual tax background, so I spent the majority of my time on R3 and R4 (I used Becker and Ninja MC)

What's your FAR secret sauce? I'm taking it within the first two weeks of April. Thus far, I'm kinda overwhelmed. Any advice?

Hate playing the opposing side but if I only spent 20% on BLaw I would not have passed. It's up tot he exam you get. Maybe because BLaw isn't as detailed and a little easier to remember you might not have to devote as much time, but don't take it lightly

    AUD - July 2014 - 76
    REG - August 2014 - 82
    FAR - November 2014 - 78
    BEC - January 2015 - 81

    DONE!!!!

Used Becker online. Who needs a text when you can burn your eyes out staring at the screen for months on end?

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you're hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

@Corporette – what worked for me was knowing all of the JEs (including Gov & NFP) before testing. Its very useful to have that foundation for FAR. Seems we're going in the exact opposite directions re: the order of the exams lol.

Thanks guys, just bought the 10pt combo and planning to take REG in Q2.

A lot of luck. And Ninja MCQ.

I was totally burnt out of FAR and AUD (and 50hr work weeks) by the time I got to REG. I just made myself jam the MCQ.

NINJA Audio! I passed on the 8th attempt and the only thing I did differently on the 8th go was to listen to the NINJA Audio over and over. From a low of 61 to an 85!

One thing that I did differently for REG is that for my notes, I completely utilized the navigation pane in Word. It helped me conceptualize and understand where things “fell” overall and I think it enhanced my recall ability. “Is it above the line? Well, where was it in my navigation pane? Oh, that's right.”—things like that.

    FAR: 7/17/14- 79
    AUD: 8/20/14- 91
    REG: 10/1/14- 88
    BEC: 11/10/14- 85
