Should I Add CPA to my Email Signature?

I have my letter from the state and the state online license verification officially has my license as being issued 3/28/2014 (I guess it takes a while to get the actual certificate).

I neither work in public accounting nor have I ever. I got my required experience as a revenue auditor for the state and I currently work as a financial analyst for a school district (which involves doing many things I studied while taking the FAR exam).

The other CPAs in my office have CPA in their email signature and I know at least one of them did work in public accounting for a couple years. I guess I feel weird using the designation since I don’t work in public accounting. Is this silly? Should I go ahead and add it?

    Thanks!

    FAR - 85
    AUD - 86
    BEC - 84
    REG - 88

If the other CPA's in your office do, then by all means add it to your signature (and congratulations!)

I don't use it in my signature, like you I just didn't find it necessary.

    BEC -75

If people in your office differentiate themselves with their designations, go for it! Public or not, you are a CPA. (and actually, in public company I work for, they don't let you put CPA in your signature, business cards, or anywhere lol)

I feel like I read somewhere that if you aren't in public accounting that you have to distinguish your cpa title in your signature. Such as “Amanda CPA, daktronics inc, corporate controller”

That way people don't assume you are in public?

Then again maybe I'm making the whole thing up…

I will most definitely be adding CPA to my signature when I pass this thing. The CPA Exam has taken a lot of time, energy, and 3 years out of my life so you can bet that I'll be adding it to everything after I pass it. I'll probably even add it to my Facebook name. 😉 Haha just kidding.

@amanda.runia – I thought it was supposed to be if you're working in industry rather than public accounting, you can display the “CPA” on the condition that you also include title, company, etc. to show people that you are not independent.

I've been busy with other tests since I covered that in (I think) Audit, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was – doesn't matter if you're in public or not, the point is just to disclose that you are not independent.

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

    Done!!

Since rig5150 works for the government (yes, schools are part of govt), I would add the signature.

I am in finance and I won't add it to my work signature when I get it, but I will to my LinkedIn account.
