I failed REG with 74 :((….This week has been like hell to me. Nothing went right….I was hoping this will make me feel better, but it didnt.

What is the chance for me to get 75 if I ask the nasba to look at my exam again?

    Thanks

Based on numerous posts I read after getting my 74, the appeal process is not worth the time or money and I haven't seen any posts where an appeal resulted in a rescore. (I got 74 twice now). Get right back on that wagon and retake as soon as you can. It sucks but it's doable. For my REG retake I did an intense 3 week restudy/review and retook it. I did take audit in between since I was in the middle of studying it but take it as soon as you can.

    R - 74;88
    A - 84
    B - 74;89
    F - no study = 67; May 15 = 87 & done

Forever4, I feel sick to my stomach reading your post. I've been watching for yalls scores today bc I took it a few weeks after you & felt about the same coming out of it.

After reading multiple such threads on here, think likelihood of rescore <= 0% 🙁 Unfortunately think you're just gonna have to hope for better batch of qs/SIMs next time…

    B - 8/30/12, 91
    A - 5/25/12, 87
    R - 7/28/12, 82
    F - 4/18/12, 84

Also I did purchase ninja notes which is a great review tool (not sure what you are using as your primary review course).

Damn it that sucks a 74. I am so pissed for you right now. A 74 is so cruel, thats why I hate this process. Use it as motivation and revenge to pass. You got this. Keep going, dont quit or be angry too long. Consider it a foul ball but in the upper deck that hits the foul pole. DONT BE ANGRY TO LONG, it will eat you up and not worth it. Give yourself 30 days to study and jump back in.

    Reg 11/15/2011 - 80

    To summarize:

No. Do not ask for a re-score.

    A - 93 - 10/25/2011
    R - 92 - 1/17/2012
    B - 91 - 5/31/2012
    F - 93 - 10/1/2012
    E - 90 - 11/17/2012

    Processing...

@forever4- No, don't ask for a rescore. I heard that it's pointless. Just restudy, but this time, study like you studied for FAR. Aim for an 88. That way, if you're off by 1 point and get an 87, you'll still pass. This is one of the reasons why I always say to aim for a high score, not a 75. Because if you aim for a 75, you have a very high risk of failing by one or two points.

I know it's been said in the above posts but the AICPA specifically says that there has NEVER been a score increase as a result of an appeal so if you decided to do it and it worked, you'd be the first in the history of the CPA exam.

Im pretty sure the only reason why the score appeal process even exists is just to be another revenue stream for the aicpa.

Don't do it. Just study like a crazy person until you can't possibly get less than a 75.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 88
    REG - 87
    FAR - 86 - Woot, all done!

    Hi everyone,

thanks so much for replying. I'm still a lil upset about that 74. but the rescore fee is just as much as paying to take the exam again so I think I will.

I think my approach of studying for REG wasnt right. I'm actually glad a bit that I fail coz its like a slap on my face that I need to rethink about how to study and study harder!!!

I'm taking AUD in August 31 and BEC in Oct 13. I just dont know when I should take REG again coz my NTS expires on Oct 13…

Ah yes, the dreaded 74. I got that score when I took the AUD portion back in April of '05, and I was so sure I was going to pass it too.

    Here's essentially what a 74 means:

74 = You passed the exam but the pool of candidates who passed this portion of the exam in this cycle is at capacity, so we gotta fail you to keep our pass rate numbers consistent. Better luck next time.

A rescore is just money down the toilet, save your time and effort and just take it again in the next cycle if you're so inclined.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - ?? 10/1/15 (Tentative)
    REG - ?? 11/?/15
    FAR - ?? Winter 2016

forever4, What was wrong about you approach? REG is my last one and I really want to get it over with and risk nothing.

If i may ask, what was the simulation score for you? Did it say weaker or comparable? It cant be stronger or else you would have passed….

Anytime you have a weaker in simulation 99% of the time you will not receive a passing score. It has happened to me in the past, where i was strong in all other categories but weaker in simulations and they parked me twice at 74…..

@dualmaxtrix and mena je twa: well, i did not do a single sim nor read the textbook. I watched the video and used the final reviews and did like thousands of MCQ though. Honestly, taking a look at my report today I thought it was enough except I should have done sims practice. My problem was the damn sims. I got stronger in MCQ and almost other ones but weaker on sims which I would figure that was the only reason why I failed. I went back and changed my answers to wrong ones at the very last mins. Just have to blame myself for being so stupid :(. Mena, you're absolutely right :(( because when I did FAR, i thought i did ok in the MCQ but well in the sims. Totally different this time and failed. Blahhhh~

    Never underestimate sims. EVER!

I am happy you got my point. You have to be very comfortable with simulations, comfortable to the extent that you atleast get a comparable in your simulations report card. Think about it, SIMS are 40% of your score, you can't be scoring weaker in it and expect to pass.

Going forward , you dont need to pound sims after sims. What you need to do is understand the MCQ's so well, that you can tell me in simple english that if A is right why BCD is wrong. If you can tell me that, then you will able to score higher in the simulations. Thats what worked for me. Understand the flow of tax…be it for S Corp, Partnership, C-corp, estates, trusts, whatever the case.
