i dont graduate until late in summer 2015. i know a lot of people who had internships and have jobs lined up when they graduate but i did not have any kind of internship so I dont have an in with any firm. also, i know recruiting season is coming to an end now. should i just wait to start looking until im closer to graduation? I see job postings but i cant imagine they are looking for people who wont be able to work for another 10 months or so

any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Have you talked to a career counselor at your school? I would listen to them than random people on the internet.

Pretty scary this late in the game you don't know how the companies you want to work for recruit people. Go talk to someone immediately and basically tell them “I messed up and know nothing.”

I would always have an eye out for job opportunities. Your situation isn't ideal but don't stress to hard about it. Just be prepared to settle for whatever falls into your lap.

You're a Summer 2015 graduate and you haven't interviewed with any CPA firms yet? You're way late to the party.

Our Firm was conducting interviews for Summer/Fall 2015 starts back in September 2014, and we were interviewing students who were Summer 2015 graduates. All the Big 4 firms and large regional firms were doing the same thing at the same time.

And your college placement office SUCKS if you had no idea about any of this.

Yes, you should be looking for a job in advance. I never had any intention of working for a big 4 or regional firm, so I didn't feel the need to start looking as far in advance. I finished my master's in May 2014 and I think I started sending out resumes (50-60 in total) In December. Out of all of those resumes sent out, I had two interviews and one turned into the job I'm at now and I was hired at the very end of February.

What I'm saying is that it may take awhile to find a job and you may send resumes to a ton of places, so the earlier you start the better. You and I were in a bad position for getting a job because of when we were graduating; tax season is over by that time.

I appreciate the advice. ya, i never took the time to find out when recruiting is and how to go about it. that's my fault for sure

so what im getting from this thread is if i see a job posting i should just apply even though im not going to be able to start at the company for almost a year?

I figure thats my best bet at this point cause even if most of them throwaway my application cause im too late or too early there may still be a few that dont.
